My experiences with reading that have shaped who I am today.

    My mom and sister started reading me books to sleep. My sister is ten years older than me, so she knew the books I might like. Her favorite childhood book was "Miss Nelson is Missing" and "Princess Truly."

    By this year, My mom started buying more black girl magic books for me and read them to so I can feel confident about myself as I grow older.

    I started to realize that I enjoyed reading, and picking my own books. At this time, I had an obsession with picture books and couldn’t stop reading them.

    I reached my reading level because After school, my mom made sure I went to the library every two weeks to pick out a new book to read and I started getting more comfortable in what I was reading and comprehending what was being said in the readings.

    These are the years I started getting more comfortable of reading chapter books. Both years, I couldn’t get enough of reading Diary of the wimpy kid books, and Dork Diaries. I had an obsession and made sure I read every book that they came out with.

    I started going after school to my local library and started going to reading groups and reading in front of others; that's how I began to feel okay about reading in front of others because I'm shy.

    By this year, I stopped going to the library as often and stopped reading books as much as I was in the past years because I started sports and was consistent with cheering.

    I found a reading app called watt pad, and you can search up any genre of reading you like and pick a book of your choice. I started reading books off there and was very fascinated by how good the books were.
  • Explore of the brain.

    At this time, I only was reading when I had to read during school; I wasn't doing it on my own time. The more books we read, the more our brains explore and help grow our knowledge for writing essays or books.

    My senior year of high school, the pandemic of Covid-19 hit us, and it seemed like my teachers weren't doing readings anymore, just getting through assignments.
