    This ruling backed the separation of Church and State in schools. No school can have mandatory Bible readings or reciting. If they do choose to do so, students do have the option of being excused from the lesson. This allowed for our country to move away from just Christian teachings and opened the door to new cultures and religions.

    Civil Rights Act
    This act ended legal segregation in public places, which included schools. It also forbade discrimination on race, religion, ethnicity or gender. The Act opened the door to the acceptance of differences in our country and allowed us to view and understand the things that make us all unique.
  • McCarver Elementary School

    McCarver Elementary School
    This school in Washington became the first magnet school. This allows for children enroll in a school outside their typical 'district' so that they can gain an education they prefer. Boston opened one a year later with the hope of drawing white students into black schools.

    Case of Lau v. Nichols
    The Supreme Court found the San Francisco School District to be in violation of the Civil Rights Act when it failed to teach English to the Chinese-American students. The ruling mandated that school districts need to provide equal opportunities to all students.

    This association allows for equal opportunity education with diverse students. Not only do they provide aid to the students, teaches also receive better training and funding is provided to programs for limited English language learners.

    Plyler V. Doe
    This ruling found Texas to be at fault when they denied public education to undocumented children. According to the ruling, Texas was in violation of the Equal Protection cause in the 14th Amendment. The ruling also determined that education would be free for these students. This aids multicultural education because it allows for students of all backgrounds the right to free educaton.

    This Act provided funds and services to school districts that had a large inflow of immigrant students. This is good for multicultural education because providing support to those students helped to create a positive look on immigrant students.

    Improving America's School Act
    President Clinton signed this Act in order to improve funding for bilingual and immigrant students. This reauthorized the ESEA of 1964 and also provided help to decrease school drop out rates, public charter schools and educational technology.

    President George W Bush signed this Act as a way to hold the schools accountable for the achievement of students. It also replaced the Bilingual Education Act of 1968.

    These are new standards set in order to maximize the learning and success of all students. These standards aim to build up the students at an early level to better prepare them for college and beyond.
