    First continental congress

    Compromised of delegates from the colonies. All states but one sent in a delegate. They all met for the first time in 1774. They had met in reaction to the Coercive Acts. Also the British were starting to tax them more and more because of the colonists reaction on their taxes and the Boston tea party.

    Second continental congress

    This meeting was held inside the Independence hall in may of 1775.
    This meeting took place about a month after stuff went down in Lexington and Concord. They were preparing for war. The delegates drafted the Olive branch petition and sent it to kind George III. Which the king refused.

    Olive branch petition

    The olive branch petition was a draft made at the second continental congress meeting. This was made in order to communicate with king George III directly. This was written to prevent war and let the king know the colonist are still loyal to the British crown. The king absolutely refused. Then the king declared the colonist on revolt.

    Prohibitory Act

    The Prohibitory Act was created by the parliamentary leaders. It was created because the colonists were in a “rebellion” against England. This Act cut all trade between the colonies and England. This act also removed the colonies from the protection of England. This started the American Revolutionary war. This act was passed by the end of 1775.

    Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was pronounced of July 1776. Written by 6 men the one with the most credit being Thomas Jefferson. This document officially separates us from England. This was written in The Declaration House.
