  • First Continental Congress

    all the colonies met in Philadelphia to think up a response to the Intolerable Acts

  • Prohibitory Act

    Britain wrote this act that would stop trade with the Americans,allow their ships to be seized and release them from protection of the crown.

  • Second Continental Congress

    The colonies came back to Philadelphia and decided on functions of government, and raising the continental army.They also wrote the Olive Branch Petition there.

  • Olive Branch Petition

    The continental congress adopts and signs the petition which was written by John Dickison.It speaks to the King George III and asks for the reuniting of the British with the Americans.

  • Declaration of Independence

    The Americans finally decided to break ties with Britain and become their own country. It was approved by congress on this date
