  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    This act allowed for more resources for low-income schools such as free and reduced lunch, more teachers at low-income schools, and other policies to help families of low-income students.

  • Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens (PARC) v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

    PARC argued that Pennsylvania was denying disabled student's rights by not providing a fair and free education. This ruling resulted in the courts saying states cannot deny a disabled child an education.
  • Mills v Board of Education DC

    This ruling stated that schools must provide accommodations at no additional cost to families and established the zero reject policy.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    This act established individualized education programs (IEP) and least restrictive environments (LRE). It also required states to provide students with disabilities a free education.
  • Hudson v Rowley

    This case involved a deaf student that was not provided a translator. The court decided that schools are not required to give the best and most appropriate accommodations for students if it is otherwise fair and equal.
  • Bill Clinton was Inaugurated

  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

    This act made general education teachers part of the IEP team and made students with disabilities take state standardized tests. It also set up behavior management and mediation plans for issues.

  • IDEA Improvement Act

    This act set higher standards for special education teachers and created better plans for early intervention.
  • Grey's Anatomy pilot episode aired

  • Every Student Succeeds Act

    This act replaced the No Student Left Behind Act and changed rules surrounding standardized testing. It stated that only 1% of students can be given alternative assessments and set in place some bullying prevention guidelines.
