  • Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania ruling

    the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled that students with intellectual needs are to be taught at state funded schools and adequately provided for. This ruling changed how society perceived those special needs children and allowed them to find the proper care at the same school as their peers.

  • Mills v. Board of Education of the District of Columbia

    the U.S. District Court classified students as exceptional and those exceptional students can not be denied rights to proper education. This ensured that all people no matter their mental capacity can have the privilege to education. https://educationonline.ku.edu/community/idea-timeline
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    This act labeled Traumatic brain injury and autism as new disability categories.As well as an IEP or ITP plan must be put in place. This allows a smoother transition for students into post secondary life.

  • Congress amended IDEA by calling for early intervention for students

    Congress called for greater accountability and improved educational outcomes, and raised the standards for instructors who teach special education classes. This helped shift the balance of funds from general education to those students who actually needed assistance.
