Menswear- Ties

    1840s Tie

This man is wearing a pretty large bow tie compared to the next picture of a man in 1865.
  • Period: to

    1865 Tie

1865 has a smaller and tighter bow tie compared to the tie from the 1840s.

    1880 Tie

In the 1880 photo, one man is wearing a medium size bow tie and a normal, smaller tie. This one differs from 1865 because both of these men are wearing either a bow tie or a smaller tie, whereas in 1865 he is wearing a smaller and tighter bow tie.

    1890 Tie

In 1890, the tie is HUGE. It is wide and looks longer than they have been. This tie looks nothing like the past ones, or even the 1901 I have pictured.

    1901 Tie

In the 1901 picture, not only is the man wearing what looks like a normal tie that men wear today. The difference between him and the other photos is the collar he is wearing. I noticed this man is wearing a collar with his tie, which I do not see often, unless it is a priest.
