  • Sopwith Camel First Flight

    Sopwith Camel First Flight
These were propellar driven planes which were commonly used in the first world war. As this plane was built very early on, it was mainly made of wood, and so it was very light and fragile therefore [nowadays it may] not thought to be suitable in war.
Though it did have have a pair of twin vickers machine guns attached to the front, and so for its time it was a fairly good plane.
  • Hawker Fury First Flight

    Hawker Fury First Flight
The Hawker Fury was a fighter plane. As it was developed between the first and second world wars, it was key to in the build up to the creation of much stronger planes for the second world war, such as the hawker hurricane.
This plane was origionally named the Hornet and was the counterpart to the Hawker Hart light bomber. This meant that when larger planes were developed the technology for supporting heavier weight was already enforced.
  • Hawker Hurricane First Flight

    Hawker Hurricane First Flight
The hawker Hurricane was the main fighter plane in the second world war. Since the first world war planes had developed greately. Wood wasn't used in its construction and design, This made it more solid looking and more fit for war. Instead of having two wings (first developed in the Sopwith Camel), it had one large which gave it more speed, and this later develpode into into an elliptical shape as in the Spitfire.
  • Spitfire First Flight

    Spitfire First Flight
The main body of the the spitfire looked very similar to that of the Hurricane, yet the spitfires top speed was higher (due to its thin cross section and its elliptical wings) and so it became a stong front line fighter. The problem with this plane was that it took a long time to get it back into the air, and so in several battles, (such as the battle of brittain) the hurricane would be the main fighting plane.
  • Hawker Hunter First Flight

    Hawker Hunter First Flight
This was the first major subsonic jet aircraft equipped with radar and fully powered flight controls. It broke the world air speed record achieving 727.63 mph. The key problem wwith this aircraft was that it had a low fuel capacity, and so this did result in a few crashing under etreme weather conditions. it did however help the construction of the harrier. Which fought more battles.
  • Hawker Harrier First Flight

    Hawker Harrier First Flight
This plane was mainly used in recapturing the Falkland Islands. This as well was a jet engine, but due to rotating funnels, it could perform a vertical take off (althought the is did use up an extortionate amount of fuel). This feature helped it become agood ground attack air craft, similar to the the hawker hunter, yet it was not a fighter.
