    Sopwith Camel
    This is the day of the first flight of a Sopwith Camel.
    The sopwith camel was a great biplane which had a short-coupled fuselage (that means there was a short distance from the wings to the tail area or "empennage"), a powerful rotary engine and twin synchronized machine guns. It may have been difficult to handly and very heavy but it gave any experienced pilot immense manouverability. This may have been the reason for its success in shooting down 1,294 enemy aircraft.

The hurricane played a major role in the battle of Britin and played a variety of roles form bombers, fighter, inteceptors and even ground support. By the end of 1944. 14,583 Hawker Hurricanes were built.

    This was the day of the first flight of the British fighter biplane - the Hawker Fury. It has earned the title of the first RAF interceptor to exceed 200mph in speed. This was the highlight of its successful 18 year service to the RAF. It was originally known by the name of Hawker Hornet.
