Arms Race
The Arms Race started when Germany and the Triple ente started to gather large amnts of Arms. After the war the Arms race truely began. Every country started stockpiling weapons incase of a surprise war. As nuclear bombs came onto the scene coutries around the world have been racing to out do eachother. They are trying to stock more Nuclear arms than the countries they hated. This is still happening today and was happening between the US and USSR during the cold war. -

This Period was known as the Cold War. During this time Russian and American realationships were in shambles. Russia and the united states compete to see who would go to space first. The American CIA and Russian KGB fought secret battles against each other to see if Democracy or Communism would rule the world. America and Russia had Nukes pointed at eachother waiting for eachother to fire one first. All of this was a result of America Despising Communism and Russia despising Democracy. -

On March 12, 1947, President Harry S. Truman presented this address before a joint session of Congress. His message, known as the Truman Doctrine, asked Congress for $400 million in military and economic assistance for European Nations. -
Marshall Plan Begins
was an U.S.-sponsored program designed to restore the economies of 17 western and southern European countries in order to create stable conditions in which democracy could Thrive. The United States feared that the poverty, unemployment, and dislocation of the post-World War II period were convincing european nations into joining communism. -
Creation Of NATO
The creation of NATO was to stop the spread of communism.The expansion of Soviet influence in Eastern Europe and the threats against Greece and Turkey aroused growing alarm throughout Western Europe. As a consequence, in April 1949, in accordance with the United Nations Charter, 12 nations established the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to coordinate the military defenses of member nations against possible Soviet aggression. -

Known as as the "Forgotten War" the Korean war was caused by many things. America helped south Korea when they were invaded by the North. They only helped because they didnt want the communist North Koreans who were funded by the Russians to claim another country in the name of communism. The war lasted for 3 years and the country was kept divided at the 38th parallel. -

After the French left Ho Chi Minh of the north had decided to form a communist country.So Ho began a campaign of terrorism against the south, It had always been his dream to reunite Vietnam into one country ,Free elections had been promised and agreed to but they didn’t happen. America feared that another country would fall to the Domino effect so America sent troops to Vietnam. The American Public turned on the war and said its not our war anymore. America then withdrew and never returned. -
Launching Of Sputnick
The Russians Launched Sputnik 1 (this was the first satelite to orbit Earth) on October 4,1957. This started the space race between the US and USSR. The launching of Sputnick caused the US to increase their funds for education in Science and Math. -

The space race started when Russia first Launched the Sputnik 1 im 1957. In response America increased funding for science and they also started a program to send the first man to the moon. In 1961 America sent the first man to the moon and was said that it ended the space race. Truely it is still going on today. -
The Bay of Pigs Invasion
In April 1961,1400 American Trained cubans invaded the Bay of PIgs in an attempt to invade and remove fidel Castro from power.However the battle didnt go well. Cuban troops outnumbered the invaders immensly. Only after 24 hours of fighting the american trained cubans surrendered. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
As cold war tensions grew the USSR decieded to befreind the communist Fidel Castro. Castro and the USSR came to an agreement and Soviet Nukes were placed in Cuba and were aiming at the US. Russia did this in response to Americas placement of nukes in Turkey pointing at the USSR.This was the closet the world had gotten to full nuclear war and the start of World War 3.
