    Maria Ostiz
    Maria Ostiz was born on June 8, 1944, in Avilés, Asturias. At four years old, she moved with her family to Pamplona and started singing then. She sang in the church choir. She only attended the choir for a very short amount of time, but it still taught her about singing.

    Pablo Sarasate Conservatory
    At the age of six, Maria, began going to a music academy where she sang. At the age of 12, it became the Pablo Sarasate Music Conservatory. There her teacher was Pablo Sarasate, a violinists known world wide. At the conservatory, she was chosen to sing around Navarra to promote the conservatory. She was usually chosen for the special events, which gave her more opportunites to sing and share her talent with others.

    Maria Ostiz received her First Communion in June of 1951. Her family was very religious, as well as herself. She still is a very religious person. She attended regular Sunday mass, and does still. being catholic was an important part in her career because the Church gave her an opportunity to sing in their choir at the age of 6.

    At the young age of 13, Maria Ostiz won her first contest singing in the radio. This was a big confidence boost for her and also helped shape her singing career. This event led to more singing contests and also led her to more opportunities at the music conservatory.

    Maria Ostiz learned to play the guitar on her own at the age of 14. She didn't have a teacher to teach her how to play the guitar, she only had herself. She watched other singers play the guitar and learned their techniques and way of playing. Her dad helped her when she was a little bit older to play hte guitar and play more advanced songs.

    Maria Ostiz moved to Madrid so that she could study and go to college there. She went to the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Madrid to study music and drama.

    Maria OStiz recorded her first album as Lorella in 1965. She used the artistic name of Lorella. Her first album included four songs, all which she composed herself. This was a big accomplishment that allowed her to become well known in the music industry and helped her develop her career.

    Maria Ostiz graduated from the School of Performing Arts of the University of Madrid, with a major in Music and Theater. She was the first college student in her family and to attend college she moved to Madrid from her home town of Pamplona.

    On June 9, 1969, Maria Ostiz married Real Madrid soccer player, Ignacio Zoco, at San Francisco Javier Castle. This June 9, they will be celebrating 45 years of marriage.

    In 1976, Maria Ostiz, represented Spain at the OTI Music Festival, which was a music contest among all the Latin American countries. She wrote the music and lyrics of her winning song, "Canta Cigarra." THe contest took place at the Teatro Juan Ruiz de Alarcón in Acapulco, Mexico.

    Maria Ostiz had the priviledge to attend the Pope's private early morning mass and sing for him. She attended mass with her husband and their three kids. This was a very meaningful experience for her as she is a devoted catholic.

    In 1987 Maria recorded her last album, "Mujer." (Woman) It was about all the diversities about being a woman. She finished her singing career with this album. She later retired from proffessional singing.

    Maria OStiz doesn't sing proffessionally now, but sings for causes if needed. She also sings for me at times and enjoys when we watch videos of her singing. she deosn't play the guitar, but she does enjoy wathcing us dance, and hopes we follow her footsteps into a great career that we choose!
