The US needed river rights so they can get to a trading post in Asia. France would not sell the land to the US at the time, after they raised 10 million dollars. The French offored the rest of Louisiana for only 5 million dollars more. the French needed money for the war against Great Britain. -
Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition
Lewis and Clark was appointed to see where the river leads out of in the Louisana Purchase territory. For two and a half years they went on the journey. A total of 33 volunteers, spent the 1803–1804 winter at Camp Dubois in Indiana Territory. On May 14, 1804, the Corps left Dubois by canoe in order to meet up with Lewis at St. Charles, Missouri. -
War 1812
A war between Britain and the United States was happening in 1812. Great Britain wanted to stop US expansion and trade. James Madison signed approval against Britain, The Americains had allied with the Indians agianst Britain.
It was a hard war and the capitol was burned. Many Americans called it our second war for independence. -
Florida Territory
General Andrew Jackson was sent to Florida to kill a tribe of indians because the indians were helping slaves escape and letting them live there. The Spanish controlled Florida at the time. Andrew Jackson took the Spanish territory by disobeying orders. -

Monroe Doctrine sent a message to Europe not to cross over or there was going to be war.James Monroe was the 5th president.He stated that other contries can't come over to try to take thier land.He convinced Spain to sell us Florida after invading it. -

The Indian Removal Act is a law that was passed by Congress on May 28, 1830, during the presidency of Andrew Jackson.Indians were forced to leave their homeland. The act was so the United States can grow cotton, plants, and tabacco. -
Oregon Territory
The region was divided between the U.S. and Great Britain in 1846.The latitude for the line the United States wanted was 54 40. United States was willing to go to war against Britain. The region was divided at the 49 line, separating the US from Canada in the American northwestern region. The U.S. and Britain signed a treaty so a war would not happen again. -

The Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican-American War on February 2, 1848 in favor of the United States. After the war Mexico gave a lot of land to the U.S., a total of 525,000 sqare miles. The land included parts of California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico, and all of Texas. Made the Rio Granded border of US territory. -
Texas
Spain allowed the US to go into Texas. After awhile, Spain tried to stop Americains from enteringTexas. Texas was a Spanish territory and wanted to separate from Mexico. Texas wanted to join with the U.S., but the U.S didnt want to go to war. In the end, the US won the Spanish-American War and Mexico gave a large amunt of land to the U.S. that included Texas.
