    Passageway where merchant-traders from Missouri who took manufactured goods to Santa Fe in exchange items they had there.

  • Battle of Alamo

    Suprise attack on Texans by a Mexican army that killed all but one.

  • Battle of San Jacinto

    Texas Revolution; Texas gaines independence.

  • Annexation of Texas

    Texas becomes apart of the United States.

  • Mexican-American War

    War between US and Mexico; increase expansion of land and slavery debates

  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hildalgo

    Ended the Mexican-American War; US gains land

  • Brigham Young (mormons)

    Leader of the Mormons after Joseph Smith's death. Directed them from Illinois to Utah. Became governer of territory.

  • Gadsden Purchase

    US agrees to pay $10 million to Mexico for a 29,670 square mile portion, which later becomes Arizona and New Mexico.

  • Fort Laramie Treaty

    Also called Sioux treaty; an agreement between the U.S. Government and the Sioux Nation, the U.S. recognized the Black Hills as part of the Great Sioux Reservation,set aside for only use by the Sioux people.
