    Operation Silverplate was the code name given to the secret task of modifying B-29 bomber to carry and drop the atom bomb on Hiroshima, and latter Nagasaki. This was made a necessity because the two proposed bombs would be too long or too wide to drop from the original B-29 and the only aircraft able to hold and drop such a bomb was of British construction but would be too heavy to be carried by it. However the operation was proved feasible when both bomb bays were combined into one.
