Major Political/Military Events 1938-1941

  • Germany's Anschluss with Austria

    The Germans went to Austria for them to vote on an anschluss (or union) with Germany
    Most voted for the union out of fear of Hitler
    Austria had now been absorbed by the German army and was under its rule
  • Germany's Annexation of the Sudetenland

    After the Munich pact was signed, Germany was given the right to invade Sudetenland
    This left them and Austria with no hope for control of their own country and left them weak
  • The Munich Pact

    It was a pact that permitted the Nazis to invade the Sudutenland in Czechoslovakia
    The conference for this pact was held in Munich with the rest of the major powers of Europe
  • Hitler's Annexation of Czechoslovakia

    Hitler started by invading the northern border (known as Sudetenland)
    This invasion made Czechoslovakia weak which made it easier for Germany to invade the rest of the country
  • The Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact

    It was a pact made between Russia and Germany not to attack one another during battle
    The pact was supposed to last 10 years but only lasted for no more than 2
  • Germany's Invasion of Poland

    Germany invaded Poland and bombed its major cities and capitol
    This invasion was the start of World War 2
  • The Phony War

    It was the period of time when declarations of war were signed but no country had made a specific attack
    It lasted until early 1940
  • The Fall of France

    France fell to Germany after they invaded France and launched an invasion
    This was the end of the 9 month "Phony War"
  • The Miracle at Dunkirk

    After the Battle of France, 350,000 men from the British, French, and Belgium army were trapped at a port in Dunkirk, France
    Boats from all over Britain came to help get as many of the soldiers out of there as possible
    They also had help from the army with aerial support
  • The Battle of Britain

    This battle was the first major battle to take place in the air with war planes
    It was the biggest aerial battle to date
