The leader of the civil rights movement was shot and killed at 6:01 p.m. is Memphis, Tennesee while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Hotel. The assassin was later revealed to be James Earl Ray, who was captured in London.

Valerie Solonas shoots and Warhol outside of his Manhattan apartment, The Factory. She said she did it because Warhol "had too much control over her life". Warhol was pronounced dead, but was revived after emergency surgery.

The former president's brother is shot following a speech that he gave in the ballroom of the ambassador hotel in Los Angeles, California. He died after an unsuccessful brain surgery. Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of murder and is still serving his life sentance.
