  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Proclaimed all the land that was specified for Indians/Native Americans (West of the Appalachian Mountains), in other words forbidding the colonists from invading this land, which resulted in angry and rebellious colonists for not allowing them to go where they please.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The British began to add more taxes on all sugars and molasses to reduce the smuggling of it that was occurring from the French. Colonists were upset at this as they felt their trading freedoms were being taken away and began to protest.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    Made to prohibit any new bills/money from being issued. Colonists protested this Act because it was hurting their economy greatly and they felt they were being taxed unfairly.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Began requiring all colonists to pay a tax (the stamp) on almost all paper and documents to raise money for Britain to pay back the debt that the French & Indian War put them into. The colonists rebelled this new law and refused to pay these taxes.
  • Quartering Act

    Allowed British soldiers to live in barracks that were being financially supported and payed for by the colonists, which the colonists were upset about because they were now being taxed to provide for these soldiers.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declared that Parliament had every right to have authority and make laws for the colonists in America, also signifying the end of the Stamp Act. Although the colonists were happy the stamp act was repealed, they felt that their independence was being limited and became upset.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Began to put a tax on all goods being imported to America. This angered the colonists and saw this as taxing without representation and protested.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British soldiers fired shots on a group of colonists killing several of the men. This motivated the American colonists to go against Britain and began to fight even harder for their independence.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A protest against the taxes Britain was enforcing. The colonists were deeply angered by these taxes and the taxation without representation, and dumped hundreds of chests of tea into the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Four acts made to punish the colonists from their recent rebellious behavior. These acts were extremely cruel and were done to humiliate the colonists, which angered them greatly as they felt their human rights were being violated.
  • Quartering Act (2nd)

    Made to improve the housing conditions for the British soldiers and expand on the Quartering Act of 1765. The colonists still were not happy with being taxed to provide for them.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    Made to make an oath of loyalty to the French as well as religious freedom for the French. The colonists were not happy with this because it gave Britain more land and control over the people.
