    • Miles Halter, the main character of the story is a loser. he has no friends at his school. He uproots his life by moving to Alabama from Florida to attend a private school called Culver Creek Prepatory High School in hopes of a fresh start.

    • Miles is introduced to his roommate, Chip "Colonel" Martin, upon arriving at his new school. Chip is the mastermind of all the pranks that were pulled during the book, hence the name "The Colonel." Chip introduces Miles to Alaska, a smart and beautiful girl who is an emotional trainwreck.

    • The weekday warriors are a group of preppy kids that attend the same private school as Miles does. The group hates Chip because he got one of the preppy kids expelled. The weekday warriors and Chip constantly pull pranks on eachother to make life difficult for the other. This rivalry lasts throughout the book. The kids pull a prank on Miles on his first day at school.

    Alaska tells Miles about her mother dying from an aneurysm. She could have saved her mother by calling an ambulance but claimed she didn't know what was happening. Alaska was 8 years of age at the time.

    • Miles figueres out what Alaskas quote meant. He spends the night with her in her dorm room . They get drunk and he almost goes all the way but Alaska was tired. She said it is "to be continued." Alaska gets a call from someone and storms out of the campus with her car.

    • Miles finds out the next day that Alaska had died from a drunk driving accident. She hit inbetween a cop car and a car that was pulled over. The steering wheel crushed her chest. MIles Realized last night was Alaskas mothers death anniversary. He thinks she committed suicide because of the anniversary.

    Miles is struck with grief. Chip tells Miles that he didnt really love her, just her personality and shouldn't feel bad. The two lose their friendship with eachother.

    • Miles stops grieving and forgives himself for letting Alaska drive drunk that night. He moves on and Chip and him become friends again. The school year ends
