    During this time, I read a lot of series by a few different authors.
  • Emergent reading

    My mom read to me and I then "read" to my imaginary friend, Tommie from about age 1-3.
  • First independently read book

    First independently read book
    The first book I read cover-to-cover independently was Dr. Seuss's classic, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
  • Brother born

    After my brother was born, my nightly ritual of reading to my parents changed and I had to begin reading to myself.
  • Horse-book phase

    I began reading books about horses in third grade and read everything I could about them until about mid-fifth grade.
  • Read classic novel in French

    I read, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, in French in high school. One thing marked off my bucket list -- reading a classic novel in the language in which it was written.
  • Read to daughter

    I began reading aloud to my daughter as soon as I found out I was pregnant. When she was big enough for me to feel her move, she would calm her movements when she heard my voice as I read.

    Again, as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I began reading aloud to my son. But, the difference this time was that I read to him and my daughter read to him, too!

    When I returned to graduate school, I definitely decreased my reading for pleasure and increased my academic reading!
