  • Start of Preschool

Although I do not remember much of preschool I feel that it wasn't about teaching actual literacy it felt more like it was mainly intended for us to learn manners and to meet new kids.
  • Start of Kindergarten

Kindergarten was the first time i had ever encountered reading and writing, unlike some of my friends who had started to learn over the summer. Overall i took to it pretty easily and started to really like reading stories and fantasy novels.
  • Read my first book all the way through

Read my first book all the way through
The first book i ever read all of the way through was Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess. My mom had told me to pick a book that i wanted to read to show off to my grandparnets one night during a family event. I started to read it and they asked me to read it all the way through because it was one of my grandma's favorites from when my mom was little.
  • Summer Reading Challenge

    Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge was the local librarie's program to make sure the kids kept reading after school was over. It allowed me to keep reading and learning while i was not in school. My favorite series of that time was the Magic Tree House series where kids would go on different adventures in their tree house.
  • Third Grade problems

For the most part i had felt literate while going through school and it all seemed to be easy. Unitl i got to third grade. This was when Bay schools started to focus on grammer a lot which has never been my strong suit. My main problem was trying to remeber all of the rules for grammer. Unlike math that seemed to have set rules that could not change grammer seemed to fluctuate constantly for me

    Literacy problems

Through this time i didn't feel like i was good at anything because i was dissapointed in my performance in my english classes.
  • Gained confidence in english again

At this time i gained my confidence in my literacy again becasue the english cirriculum shifted back to being more reading focused. Although i dont feel that there was a single teacher that helped me understand i sort of feel that there was a time when it all just seemed to click in my mind.
  • Mr. Slynina

Mr. Slynina was my fist english teacher that seemed to understand my thought process in english. He saw that i liked to read stories and understand them instead of writting and worrying if i had correct grammer. His class was where i actually liked reading higher level and more complex storeies like Hamlet.
  • Crime and Punishment

    Crime and Punishment
Crime and Punishment was my Senior english paper topic in which i had to read the book and discover themes that are present in it. This I feel was when i realized there where underlying themes and ideas that authors put into their works. This book made the experience of reading more difficult books fun for me because I would read the book and be able to understand why the author had included certain details and sturctured thier book in a certain way.
  • Shakespeare in Film

With Crime and Punishment done i wanted to contiue to analyze stories in college and Shakespeare in Film caught my eye. In this class we learned how to analyze Shakespeare's stories to see what he ment and how it can be protrayed in the medium of film.
