First cosmetic lipstick manufactured commercially. Only actors and actresses could get away with wearing makeup and only on stage. Then actresses started wearing it in public.

Modern Lipstick

The first modern lipstick was introduced by perfumers in Paris. It was wrapped in silk paper and made with deer tallow, castor oil and beeswax.

Metal Containers

Lipstick started to be sold in metal containers, with various push-up tubes.

Push up

The first push-up tubes of lipstick were invented.The popularity of silent films promoted the use of lipstick. In these films women wore black lipstick.

Lip Gloss

Max Factor invented lip gloss. In 2003, the company retired the item. Lip gloss was riginally used by movie actresses and then it caught on.

Lipstick producers in the US produced many colors like light pink, dark lilac and bright red. Lipstick started becomming very popular.

Helen Bishop,a chemist, invented a long-lasting lipstick called no-smear lipstick.
