  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Delegates from 12 colonies met at Carpenter's Hall to discuss a response to the Intolerable Acts. These 55 members of the First Continental Congress discussed ideas and resolve how to adress colonial grievences.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Representatives from 13 colonies met at the State House in Philidelphia on May 10, 1775 for the Second Continental Congress. As the fighting intensified, the Second Continental Congress assumed the functions of a national government.
  • Olve Branch Petition

    Olve Branch Petition
    John Dickenson drafted the Olive Branch Petition as an attempt to assert the rights of the colonists while maintaining loyalty to the British crown. It was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 5, 1775 and submitted to King George July 8, 1775. Unfortunatly, King George refused to read the petition and expressed that the colonies had proceeded to to open and avowed rebellion.
  • Prohibitory Act

    Prohibitory Act
    Great Britain passed the Prohibitory Act in December of 1775. This removed colonies from protection of the crown and banned trade with them.
