  • What I would Do If I Was the Victim Of Fraud

What I would Do If I Was the Victim Of Fraud
  • First, I would determine what information was used to commit the fraud.

First, I would determine what information was used to commit the fraud. Credit card, social security, etc. In the theoretic steps ahead, I will assume credit card fraud, since it is the most common.
  • Gather Information

    Gather Information
I would go through all bank statements from the span of time in which I suspect fraud, and make a list of all fraudulent charges and their dates; there is no point in contacting the necessary people if you don’t have the correct information to provide them.
  • Contact The Bank

    Contact The Bank
Once I have the necessary information I would first call the bank and cancel my credit card, and probably schedule to meet with someone. From here, I have confidence that they would be able to walk me through any and all steps I would have to take to resolve the issue.
  • Preventing Future Fraud

    Preventing Future Fraud
To prevent fraud in the future, I would do something that my parents did. I would set up something with the bank where if my credit card is used somewhere out of the ordinary the card will be declined. However, if you plan on going on vacation, you can contact the bank and let them know, and the out of state restriction is lifted for a specified period of time. My dad and stepmother have always had this system in place and have never been victims of fraud.
