  • Fair Labor Standards

    Fair Labor Standards

    · introduced a maximum 44-hour seven-day workweek, established a national minimum wage, guaranteed "time-and-a-half" for overtime in certain jobs, and prohibited most employment of minors in "oppressive child labor”
    · There would be more labor going on for less pay

    - requires that men and women in the same workplace be given equal pay for equal work.
    -There would be sexism going on in the workplace

    -Regulates Federal Government agency record keeping and disclosure practices.Allows most individuals to seek access to Federal agency records about themselves.
    -Without it the government could disclose our information (oh, the irony)

      • Sets minimum pension standard plans in private industries.
      • The act allows people who receive pensions to be treated fairly.

    -December 27, 1988 -Passed by the 100th Congress -This act prevents employees from using lie detectors, either from pre-employment screening or during the course of employment, with certain exemptions. -People are given a chance at employee opportunities without being denied immediately

    - entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons
    -Without it, many new mothers would not have maternity leave.
