Lead up to the American Revolution

  • The Enlightenment

    The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was during the 17th and 18th century where the idea of reforming society using reason was starting to become popular. Lots of Philosophers such as John Lock, Isaac Newton, Perrier Bayle, and many others that began to question the old beliefs. I would rate the Enlightenment at a 6 because of how it started to revolutions the government.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
The French and Indian War took place in colonized America. The 7 year war was mostly between the Indians and French against the British and colonist. The war was fought primarily in colonies from Virginia to Nova Scotia. I rate this war at a 7 because it leads to the Proclamation of 1763.
  • Proclamation Line of 1763

    Proclamation Line of 1763
The Proclamation line was made by the British so that settlers could not settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. This line was drawn so that there would be less conflict between the Native Americans and European settlers. I would rate this at a 6 because the settlers did not listen to the proclamation line and settled passed the Appalachian Mountains anyways.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a tax on all printed pieces of paper such as newspaper, legal documents, license, and even playing cards. The Stamp Act was imposed on all American colonies. This was the first serious time that parliament tried to enforce government upon the colonies. The Act was put in place because Britain had fallen into serious debt after the French Indian War (7 year war). I rate the Stamp Act at an 8 because it was the first real government influence on the Americans.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was when a mob of patriots was rioting against the British sentinel. An officer called in for reinforcements because the crowed was getting out of hand. After the new soldiers had arrived the officer gave the order to fire into the crowed. The Massacre killed a total of 5 people, but dew to the propaganda it was lead to be much more. 2 British soldiers were found guilty of manslaughter. I believe this is 9 because it was the event that started the armed revolution.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
The Tea Act was a plan to boost revenue and the East Indian Trading Company who was failing. The plan was too let the East Indian Trading Company (who had 18 million pounds of unsold tea) sell rite to the American colonist but to undercut the market. The colonist did not agree with this and kept the British ships in at bay and would not let them unload their cargo or leave the tea rotting on the docks. I would put this at an 8 because this was the kick of the revolution in Boston.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was when a group of Massachusetts patriots, The Sons of Liberty (who were protesting the Tea Act) snuck on to 3 East Indian trade ships and threw over 300+ chests into the harbor. Soon after this congress responded with the Intolerable Acts. I would rate this at a 9 because of how willing the colonists were to strike out against the British.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were new laws by the British. 4 of these laws were directly dew to the Boston tea party. The 5th act was about the Province of Quebec and enlarging its boundaries. The British wanted to keep the Americans in check, but the plan back fired. It only made the Americans angrier which would eventually lead to the writing of the declaration of independence and the revolutionary war. I believe this is a 9 because of how it made the Americans want to fight for freedom.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress met at Carpenters hall in Philadelphia, PA in the early stages of the revolution. The meeting was held in response to the Intolerable Acts. 12 of the 13 colonies representatives showed up (excluding Georgia). The representatives met to consider operations of including a boycott of British trade, rights, and grievances. Also they sent a letter of petition to King Jorge III. I would rate this as a 6 because it was the first formal letter sent to King Jorge.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
The Battles of Lexington and Concord took place Lexington, Concord, Lincoln, and Cambridge, near Boston. The British army had sent secret orders to capture and destroy military supplies at concord, but the militia got the intel weeks in advance. The British had had marched into Concord after a forcing a few militia back. Once the red coats had reached the North Bridge of concord they were met by 500 militia. The British pushed on which became the Siege of Boston.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia, PA with 12 of the colonies still missing Georgia. The Second Continental Congress acted as more of a government by adopting the Declaration of Independence, raising armies, directing strategy, and so on and so forth. Peyton Randolph was first elected president but was soon replaced by Thomas Jefferson. I believe this should be a 9 because of how much influence they had over the war and the future government.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written in by Thomas Jefferson. The Declaration of Independence did just that declared America its own free country. The Declaration stated all of the colonial grievances against King Jorge III and asserting natural and legal rights. The Declaration of Independence is what America is founded on and what America will always be about. Everyone who lives in this country will have the right to Life, Liberty, and pursuit of happiness that is a 10!
