  • Early Special Education Programs

    Children were learning social values in classes and the early special education programs focused on moral training of the African- American children. Special schools and classes for children that had disabilities did exist during this time. This is a very important time because this is when everything started.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    The supreme court issued a landmark civil rights decision in the Brown v. Board of Education. The supreme court found that the Africa-American children had equal rights to educational opportunities.
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    Congress enacted that there be inequality of educational opportunity for underprivileged children. This provided resources to help ensure that all students had access to the quality education. This is an important act because every child had the right to be educated.
  • Rehabilitation Act

    It is illegal to discriminate against anyone due to their disability. It is illegal to deny benefits and participation to a person with disabilities. This is a very important act in history because no person be treated differently due to their disabilities.
  • The Education for all Handicapped children act

    Congress intended that all children with disabilities would have the right to get an education. This act is applicable because at these times the children with disabilities were the not the given an equal opportunity until this act was passed.
  • Board of Education of Hendrick Hudson Central School District v. Rowley

    The students who qualify for special education programs must be provided with the instructions in order to meet specific needs. This is important because the special education children needs individualized instructions.
  • The No Child left behind Act

    This act improved the quality of special education at the state level. The statewide assessments and specially trained professionals to teach students with disabilities. This is an important act because the special education students were getting the professional help they needed.
