  • Dropping of the Atomic Bomb/Japanese Surrender

    The United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 and one on Nagasaki on the 9th. The Japanese announced their surrender on the 15 and their leaders signed the surrender on Sep. 2.

  • India Pakistan Conflict/Pakistan is formed

    Pakistan is split off of India and Muslims and Hindus begin to fight

  • Berlin Airlift

    Soviet forces blocked all access to West Berlin. So, the US flew in food and other supplies to the West Berliners. This lasted from June 24, 1948 to May 12, 1949.

  • Creation of NATO

    NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was a collection of countries such as Canada and the US that got together in the hopes of stopping the spread of communism.

  • China takes over Tibet by force

  • China’s Agreement with the Dalai Lama

  • Tibet Uprising

  • Berlin Wall goes up

    A concrete wall goes up, separating East Berlin from West Berlin.
