Aug 17, 1945

Korea Divided Into Two Sides

This country split after the North side was invaded by Russia in the very few last days of WWll; and the South side was invaded by the U.S.A. (to stop Communism from spreading). That is why today North Korea is communist and South Korea is a democracy.

1947

U.S.A. left South Korea

U.S.A. left south Korea because nothing was happening and they wanted to get back home. Although, this was risky because Russia was still in North Korea.

Harry Truman Promises to Fight Communism

When he does this, he will change the entire country of South Korea in 3 years.

Jun 25, 1950

The Korean War Started

When North Korea tried to invade South Korea, the South Korean President, ordered to kill 100,000 people because he was worried that South Korea would have been communist.

Jun 27, 1950

Ameirica Joins

America joins the Korean war. Then takes a lot of deaths and is forced back to the city of Pusan.

Jul 4, 1950

Some American Troops are Defeated

Some American troops are defeated because they were out numbered by North Korean soldiers at Osan. Osan is an air base in South Korea. Luckily, they didn't send too many troops.

The United States Won a Battle at Inchon

The U.S.A. took a fight at Inchon. They won! As North Korean troops invade the city of Inchon, the UN soldiers go to Inchon and take back the entire city from North Korea.

Oct 20, 1950

America Reaches North Korean Capital

U.S.A. gets into Pyongyang, the capital, and feel very proud of themselves for what they have accomplished.

MacArthur

MacArthur, the general leading the UN troops, tells the troops to go past the Korean border and go into China. However, they are attacked by about 210,000 Chinese army members. MacArthur promised they'd be home by Christmas, but that is now not going to happen.

Nov 1, 1950

China Joins the Madness in Korea

When China joins, they suddenly push back the UN, they take almost all advantage points (including Seoul), and at the end South Korea is still as a Democracy, and North Korea still a Communist county.

Nov 25, 1950

TRAPS

The North side of Korea (China and Russia) tells the UN troops that there are traps set and that they shouldn't invade. Otherwise, it will be a very violent war.

Nov 30, 1950

Atomic Bomb

The U.S.A. threatens to use an Atomic Bomb against China if more communist countries enter the war. It makes sense because, of course, we'd want to win the war.

Jan 4, 1951

Seoul Re-capture

Troops from North Korea re-capture Seoul, but the Chinese troops that are following are defeated by oncoming UN troops.

Peace Speeches

Many people make peace talks/speeches but few of them impact anything. The the war will continue for a couple more years.

Apr 11, 1951

MacArthur is fired

MacArthur is fired because of disagreements (about bombing China). The person taking MacArthur's place is a U.S. General named Matthew Ridgeway.

Aug 13, 1951

The Battle of Heartbreak Ridge

America and France started a fight against North Korea and part of South Korea (because there were still some Chinese troops left).
The UN won and filtered out the Chinese from South Korea.

Oct 8, 1952

Bombing

The UN bombed the capital Pyongyang for a few months. Although, these bombs were not atomic bombs.

Jul 27, 1953

Korean War ENDS

Finally the Korean war ends as President Truman says he might release a Nuclear Bomb if the war doesn't end soon. That started to scare people fighting for North Korea. Therefore, on July 27, 1953, all the fighting countries signed an armistice agreement. Which ended the war. They created a zone between the sides; which is also the border to this day.
