  • Stock Market Crash

    The crash of the stock market happened on this date in history. This caused loss of money, houses, and possessions on a mass scale.
  • Roosevelts First Election

    President Franklin D. Roosevelt is elected to the position of President of the United States. He would continue to serve for 4 terms and changed much of Americas history.
  • CCC

    The Civilian Conservation Corps. Helped rebuild America's infustructure after the dust bowl. This group was very effective and helped many civilians out of the depression.
  • Social Security Act

    The social security act created a safety net for senior citizens and those in bad conditions to have monthly payments to help with living prices.
  • FDR Court Packing Scandal

    FDR is accused of packing the supreme court in favor of his views. This was a low point in his presidency.
  • HUAC

    House Un-American Activities Committee is formed to find and stop anyone who may be operating against the U.S.
  • Germany Breaks Munich Pact

    Germany breaks the pact to keep geramny and other annex's to belong to who rightfully owns it.
  • Battle of Britain

    Nazi's started flying bombing runs over england but the Royal Air Force was able to stop the attack and protect the english home front.
  • Pearl Harbor

    The naval station of Pearl Harbor was bombed by the japanese without warning. This attack killed 2,403 Americans died. This brought us into WWII.
  • D-Day

    The U.S. and coalition forces invade Nazi occupied territory to put us on the offensive and start the turning point in the war.
  • Battle of Carentan

    The city of Carentan was a key location in france for U.S. armor to link up after the invasion of D-Day. It was held by Nazi forces and was lost to U.S. Paratroopers.
  • Operation Market Garden

    Operation Market Garden was an operation led by the British. It was fought in germany and was a failure.

    Korea is divided between north and south. This created the spark for a war
  • FDR's Death, Truman Becomes President

    FDR died and the position was filled by vice president Truman. He was held in the dark about many things by FDR which made the transition stressful.

    The official day honoring the victory in Europe and the fall of the Nazi regime. A great day for the world.
  • Nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    The United States dropped nuclear bombs on 2 strategic places of Japan to end the war in the pacific.

    The official day showing the victory in Japan and the surender of the japanese empire.
  • UN Formed

    The United Nations is formed to create a more united place to talk over disagreements between nations.
  • Truman Doctrine

    This was a plan to counter the soviet's spread of communism. It caused the creation of many scares and fueld the cold war.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Soviet Union blocked east berlin which was occupied by good people. The U.S. and other country's flew supplies into east berlin for almost a year.

    The bloody conflict between North Korea and South Korea caused many deaths and American lives to be lost. There is still conflict to this day.

    President Truman sends U.S. forces to help South Korea and asks for UN intervention.

    The North invaded the south starting a war. This offically was the beginning.

    U.S. sends troops to help the south fight back the north. This was a bloody war.

    The United Nations takes over Pyongyang. This caused South Korea to get North Korea on their heels.

    The U.S. and South Korean forces pushed back the North Koreans to the chinease border which caused China to enter.
  • Chosin Reservoir

    This battle was fought between U.S. Marines and the Chinease. After the Chinease entered the war they pushed the South Koreans back. The Marines entered and brokeout of the reservoir to push China back.
  • *Negotiations begin at Panmunjon*

    These negotiations created the start to an armistice. The end is in site but still out of reach. The battles still rage.

    A couple was accused of giving top secret information to the Soviet union. They were convicted.
  • *Truman relieves MacArthur of Command*

    President Truman no longer saw fit for MacArthurs command. He gave his command away to help provide more postitive outcomes.
  • *Korea becomes campaign issue in 1952 Presidential Issue*

    The Korean war is heavily debated between canidates for U.S. President. Both sides are heavily debated.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Segregated schools between blacks and whites was found unconstitusional. This was a major turning point in american history.

    A formal agreement was found between North and South Korea ending the war but the conflict had not been yet solved.

    The long, bloody war between south vietnam and north vietnam and the fight against global communism takes place.
  • Sputnik

    The Soviet Union launched the first satalite into space. This caused the U.S. to increase education spending and create NASA.

    Non-violent protests to try and make company's allow blacks to sit in there own stores. This made companys repeal their segrigation codes.
  • Vietnam Day

    The president of North Vietnam reads in front of a large crowd. This was seen as communist from many nations.
  • Berlin Wall

    The Berlin wall is built to spereate east and west berlin. This stayed in place until 1981.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Soviet Union put nuclear warheads in cuba which is 90 miles from US soil. This caused many to panic and think about possible annilation.
  • March on Washington

    200,000 people march on washington to fight for civil rights. MLK delivers his famous "I have a dream" speech.
  • Assassination of JFK

    John F. Kennedy was the president of the United States and he was assassinated during a parade on this date.
  • Gulf of Tonkin

    This was a made up claim about the U.S. taking contact from the enemy to let LBJ be a wartime president without a decleration of war.
  • Freedom Rides

    A groups of blacks and whites who rode a greyhound bus through the south and recived a strong backlash.
  • Operation Rolling Thunder

    This was a strong bombing campaign by the United States. If the political people would have stepped aside it would have been much more affective.
  • Malcom X Assassination

    Malcom X was a highly respected leader for the civil rights movement yet his methods were questioned. He was assassinated.
  • Woodstock

    Woodstock was a musical arts festival with over 400,000 in attendance. It was huge for the hippy culture.
  • Tet Offensive

    The Tet Offensive was one of the biggest campaigns during the Vietnam war. This was the first time the North vietnamese attacked and the US took a win for this. The media twisted it to make it seem like the US lost the offensive.
  • Assassination of MLK

    Martin Luther King Jr. who was the leader of the civil rights movement was killed on this date.
  • Moon Landing

    The U.S. lands the first men on the moon. This was a triumphant victory in the space race and proved the Soviet Union wasn't all that.
  • Kent State Shooting

    The Ohio National Guard shot students during a protest against bombings in cambodia. 4 people died.
