    When Japan surrendered, Soviet Union stayed in the North, while America stayed in the South. They created the 39th parallel which is the border between the two sides.

    When the North invaded the South, they started the war. North Korean's tanks and infantry come across the border between the two sides, and attack the unsuspecting South. This was the beginning of the communist North's southward advance.

    American joins the war
    United Nations issued a statement condemning North Korea as the aggressor in the current conflict in Korea. The UN also told all countries involved with them to help South Korea resist the attack from the North. In conclusion, President Truman sent air and naval support to South Korea.

    American forces face North Korean forces at Osan. America is expecting an easy victory but are surprised when North Korea has a fairly large army. The U.S. troops fail to stop North Korea from their southward advance.

    North Korea continued their southward advancement through Korea. They pushed the American forces 100 miles south of Seoul.

    Douglas MacArthur had Allied land troops come in behind the enemy lines. There was already troops on the front of the enemy lines holding the North from continuing their southward advance. His goal was to attack the North Koreans on both sides. The attack cough them by complete surprise and the U.S. was able to cut important supply lines. North Korea was forced to retreat back to the north. 10 days after the attack, American forces recaptured Seoul.

    President Truman told MacArthur to follow the North Korans when they retreated. The first Calvary Division reached Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea.

    Mao Zedong was scared of the American forces at the border of China. In result, he had hundreds of thousands of his troops attack the U.S. The Chinese cough the American troops off guard.

    MacArthur was mad how Truman was fighting back in Korea. In result, MacArthur makes an unauthorized public statement threatening the Chinese destruction if they don't withdraw from Korea. Truman and his staff agree that MacArthur has become defiant and may have to soon be fired.

    Finally President Truman and his staff agree that it is time for MacArthur to go. He is replaced by General Matthew Ridgway.

    With both sides fighting and neither making any head way, the United Nations called for a negotiation to end the conflict. This created the first peace talk between the U.S., North Korea, South Korea, and China. The negotiations lasted for 2 more years.

    He received 32 million votes, the most in American history. Built his campaign mostly around bringing the American troops home from Korea.
