    Republican Eisenhower defeated Democrat Stevenson to win the presidency. Eisenhower vowed "I shall go to Korea." He ran on a policy of defeating Korea and communism.

    North Korea signs the Armistice with The UN and China but South Korea does not sign it. North Korea remains communist and south Korea non-communist. Along the 38th parallel is a de-militerized zone between North and South Korea to prevent further conflict. The war took the lives of over 36,000 Americans died and more then 100,000 were wounded. South Korea lost more than 1,000,000 people due to war related causes, and more than 1,800,000 North Koreans were killed or wounded.
