The Korean War begins when 75,000 North Korean soldiers cross the 38th parallel towards the city of Seoul and the United States was quick to respond. They petitioned to help the non-communist South to the United Nations, and were able to do so because Russia was not in the meeting to veto the idea.

South Korean president Syngman Rhee had months of mass killings of people he believed were linked with communists, because he was paranoid and wanted to eradicate communist ideas from his citizen's minds.

President Truman sends US troops to help fSouth Koreans fight against North Korean troops that were invading their area. They did this because they didn’t want communism to spread, especially throughout all of Asia.

US Marines force makes a surprise amphibious landing on Inchon on the west coast of Korea. This Amercian-led United Nations force was able to break North Vietnam's army supply line, and after that, they were able to push further inland to recapture the city of Seoul.

All sides who were a part of the war signed an armistice to end the bloodshed. However, neutral countries were forced to determine the fate of the prisoners of war, and they gave them the option to stay where they were or return to their homeland. The border between North and South Korea was reestablished, and so Korea remained separated (Communist North and Democratic South), and the separation, with a lot of tension between both countries, remains today.

The Vietnam Independence League takes control over North Vietnam. Previously though, in July, it had been determined that Vietnam would only be split in half temporarily, the North being governed by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, while the South would be governed by the non-communist State of Vietnam, until 1956 where elections would take place to reunify the country. So the separation within the country was not there before, and was supposed to be only temporary.

US and the Pentagon had planned some air attacks on North Vietnam to ‘hurt’ and prevent it from supporting those who fought on their side on the war in the South. US destroyer Maddox was attacked by North Vietnamese torpedo boats in the Gulf of Tonkin. South Vietnamese patrol boats carried out raids on the islands off the coast of the north, while the Maddox drove off the North Vietnamese boats with gunfire.

Communists in Vietnam planned to launch several military attacks on cities, towns, and military installations along with uprisings throughout the country. It was scheduled to be on Tet, New Year Festival, in late January.

President Richard Nixon introduces a strategy to end American involvement in the Vietnamese war in which all military responsibilities would be handed on to South Vietnam. This way, the South Vietnam army would gain strength on its own, and US troops would gradually withdraw. US wanted to be a part of the war at first, but realized the effect it was having on American citizens, so decided to withdraw, unlike in the Korean War, where the US wanted to keep helping South Korea.

The People's Army of Veitnam and the Viet Cong (National Liberation Front), which was the South Vietnamese communist front, captured the city of Saigon, the captial city of South Vietnam. This marked an end to the Vietnam War, and began the reunification of Vietnam to a socialist republic, led by the Communist Party of Vietnam.
