After US ship, Maddox, was allegedly attacked by Vietnamese troops, President Johnson ordered a counter attack, this time only US attacked and it was not and attack ordered by the UN forces. -

The Tet Offensive was a series of attacks that was done by the Vietcong forces. This Attacks became a turning point in the Vietnamese war because media was able to record the war events. US citizens didn't support the war anymore and the US slowly started to withdrawal their forces.
