  • Baba's Birth

    "Baba was born"(3) in 1933. If Baba was never born, then none of the story would've taken place.
  • Amir's Birth

    Amir was not born the same year as Hassan, "just one year after my mother died giving birth to me."(6) Amir's birth is significant because he is the main character in the book and is the reason for most of the events to happen.
  • Hassan's Birth.

    Hassan was born "in that small shack... one cold winter day in 1964"(6) where his father woud then talk care of him. The fact that he was born in a shed instead of a house, shows that he was of a lower social class. It also shows that he was born into poverty and that the life he will have will not be as privileged as Amir's.
  • Sanaubar Leaving

    Hassan's mother Sanaubar ran off with a clan of traveling singers and dancers"(6) and she had left "less than a week after he was born."(6) Hassan growing up without a mother was hard and he acted as if she never existed in the first place. It was hard for Hassan because he never knew the real reason his mother wanted to leave.
  • Baba built an orphanage

    In the late 1969, "Baba decided to build an orphanage," (13) yet Baba had no experience in architectural design. Baba built the orphanage to try and atone for his sins and make himself feel less guilty. Even though Baba made the orphanage out of the goodness in his heart they were just a way for him to feel better about his sins.
  • Hassan is raped

    The tragic event of Hassan getting raped took place in 1975 during the winter time and "Hassan didn't struggle. Didn't even whimper." (75) This terrible event has left Hassan scarred for the rest of his life and it is a tragic situation he could not escape. Hassan left the situation and was traumatized because it is such a horrible thing and leaves people affected.
  • Last Kite Race for Hassan

    In winter 1975, Hassan had his last kite run even though he didn't know that it would be his last kite run and he used the phrase '"Let's fly"'(62) to begin their kite race. Going into the race Hassan did not know it would be his last, but after the incident that occurred later that day he would never be the same again. He was in a mental shock and was traumatized for a long time after the incident.
  • Soviet Union Invasion

    On Dec. 27 1979, the first of the soviet troops had parachuted into Afghanistan to plea for help. The troops stayed for over nine years and "cost them roughly 15,000 lives," (NYT).
  • Amir and Soraya get married

    Amir and Soraya had celebrated on "the awroussi, the wedding ceremony." Soraya has found someone he loves and married her Amir made it clear that he will stay dedicated.
  • Baba's death

    Baba had been sick and needed help so he asked Amir, and Soraya and Amir had helped. One morning after they took care of Baba, "Baba did not wake up." Baba held such a strong power over Amir and once Baba needed help it showed that the power he had attained was then going to diminish.
  • End of the Soviet Invasion

    The Soviets left by February 1989 in a "unilateral withdrawal." By the summer of 1994, the power was divided "anarchically", but one of the groups would eventually hold the majority of the power
  • Growth of Taliban

    Mullah Omar got a group of men together to fight the warlords and eventually raped a girl and then shaved the girl's head. At the end of 1994, he had close to 12,000 followers then they all were fighting warlords.
  • Taliban Takeover

    12,000 followers of the Taliban to restore Islam to the daily life.
  • Sohrab attempted suicide

    Sohrab slit his wrists with "the same razor [Amir] had shaved with the day before." Sohrab was upset and didn't want to go back to the orphanage
  • Karazai Government

    Defeated Taliban and made him the leader. He faced a population problem and lack of economic manefest.
  • Hamid Karazi took power

    Karazi was appointed power in June of 2001 to be the president of Afghanistan. He was seeking peace for Afghanistan.
  • Attack of the World Trad Center

    On one normal morning in New York City there was two planes that flew into the twin towers in New York. The attack was an act of Terrorism performed by the Taliban and Mr. bin Laden.
  • Taliban Resurgence

    Taliban contiuned guerilla warfare and influenced the Southern of Afghanistan. Lasted six years until it decreased
  • Obama Speech about Plan

    President Obama announced that he would deploy additional troops, about 30,000 to try and bring home troops.
  • Removal of Gen. McChrystal

    Obama removed General Stanley McChrystal who was an expert in counterinsurgency
  • Emphasized US forceful

    Increased Emphasation that forces in the US and ended in 2014 but began 2011
