  • Movie Upset

    Amir is in America and is talking about a movie with another guy, "'Charles Bronson dies in it, so do James coburn and Robert Vaughn'" (Hosseini 356). Amir wasn't associated with America culture so he told the ending of a movie to another man. This man then got really mad at him because Amir gave away the ending to a movie.
  • The New Monarchy

    One night Amir and Hassan listened as they shot people thinking they were shooting birds but, "Kabul awoke the next morning to find that the monarchy was a thing of the past" (Hosseni 36). The day after what they thought was bird hunting turned out to be the first day of a new life. A new government had come in and took over Kabul.
  • Kite Running

    Amir said, "I saw Hassan run a kite for the last time"(Hosseini 55). This was the last year that Amir and Hassan flew kites together. This event also foreshadows an event in the future.
  • Babas gaze

    Amir was getting ready to fly his kite when he, "I turned my gaze to our rooftop, found Baba and Rahim Khan sitting on a bench, both dressed in wool sweaters, sipping tea. Baba waved" (Hosseini 61). It was very important to Amir that his dad was watching. Winning the kite competition was the way Amir was going to win his fathers affection.
  • Violation

    Hassan was violated and Amir was wondering, "Did he know I knew?" (Hosseini 78). Amir watched as Hassan was violated after running for the kite. Afterwards Amir wondered if Hassan knew if he knew.
  • Competition Celebration

    After Amir won the kite competition he came come to the celebration, "It happened just the way I'd imagine" (Hosseini 79). Amir imagine what it would be like when he won the kite competition. Amir's father was very proud of him and congratulated him as he came home.
  • Amir's Birthday

    Amir had fireworks at his party and was telling his dad, "'Thanks for the fireworks'"( Hosseini 102). Amir had a giant party for his birthday that his dad organized. His dad invited a bunch of people Amir didn't know.
  • Eating Dirt

    Hassan is the kind of person who thinks, "And that's the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too" (Hosseini 55). Amir was telling Hassan to eat dirt to see if Hassan was that loyal and he was going to. Hassan is very loyal to Amir and would do anything for him where as Amir wouldn't.

  • The Bombings

    Hosseni was talking about how, "The generation of afghan children whose ears would know nothing but the sounds of bombs and gunfire was not yet born" (Hosseni 36). The kids in this generation would most likely grow up in the streets listening to gun fire and bombs. The kids that would be lucky enough to have a home would still be tortured by these sounds day and night.
  • Soviet Union Invation

    The first soviet troops parachuted into Kabul, Afghanistan. Afghanistan was "known little peace since 1979, when the soviet union invaded" (Afghanistan - An Overview).
  • Assefs Jail Time

    When Amir was talking to Assef, Assef told him, "'I spent some time in jail, at Poleh-Charkhi, just after Babrak Karmal took over in 1980'" (Hosseini 282). Assef was a violent child and never got caught or reprimanded. Later he finally got caught for doing something and got sent to jail. Assef's bullying towards Amir foreshadows that he's going to go to jail someday.
  • Soviet Air Force rendred

    UNited States helped afghanistan when "the soviet air force was also rendered largley useless by advanced stinger antiaircraft missiles supplied by the United States to the rebels"(Afghanistan- An Overview).
  • Last Soviet Troup Left

    Afghanistan was at some oeace when "the last soviet troops left afghanistan in february 1989" (Afghanistan- An Overview).
  • Division of Power

    After the soviet troops left "the power was anarchically divided among competeing warlords and individual fiedoms" (Afghanistan- An Overview)
  • Mullah Omar

    Mulluh OMar was agroup of rebels that bound together when the warlords raped a girl and "by the end of 1994 Mullah Omar had nearly 12,000 followers and was rolling up the warlords to the north and east" (Afghanistan -An Overview).
  • Mulluh Omar- Supplies

    WHen Mulluh Omar starting becoming bigger "pakistani intellegence officers began funneling arms, money and supplies to mullah omar's men"(Afghanistan - An Overview).
  • Public Justice

    Assef was talking about when he showed public justice and how, "'Public justice is the greatest kind of show, my brother.'" (Hosseni 276). Assef believes that public justice is the best way of punishment. He believes public justice is the only way to get people to follow the laws.
  • Violence

    Assef was beating on Amir and Sohrab was saying, "'Don't hurt him anymore'" (Hosseini 290). Hassan's son tried to stop Assef from beat Amir to death. In the end Sohrab ended up shooting Assef in the eye with his slingshot.
  • Missing Wife

    Amir had been in Afghanistan for a long time so he realized, "I had never been away from Soraya for so long, and when she locked her arms around my neck, when I realized how much I missed her." (Hosseini 357). Amir was in Afghanistan for a long time trying to get (Hassan's son) back. Amir finally realized how much he had missed his wife.

    WHen 9/11 occured "President George W. Bush gave the Taliban an ultimatum to hand over Mr. bin Laden"(Afghanistan -An Overview)
  • New Goverment Official

    "A new goverment official "Hamid Karzai, a supporter and relative of MOhammad Zahir Shah, the exiled former king of afghanistan, was named chairman of an interim goverment that replaced the defeated Taliban"(Afghanistan- AN Overview)
  • New Years

    "In our house, the new year began much the same way the last one had ended. In silence" (Hosseini 363). Sohrab was still not talking to Amir because he promised Sohrab he wouldn't have to go back to an orphanage house but then Amir went back on his promise. This resulted in Sohrab not talking to Amir for over a year.
  • Kite Flying 2

    Amir was flying a kite and took down the last kite, he said to Sohrab, "'Do you want me to run that kite for you?'" (Hosseini 371). This made Amir so happy because it reminded him of his childhood when everyone was still alive. Amir gladly asked because Hassan, Sohrab's dad, used to do that for him.
  • General Removed

    A warfare general was "removed Gen. McChrystal after contemptuous quotes from the general and his staff about senior administration officials appeared in an article in Rolling Stone Magazine" (Afgfhganistan- An Overview)

    In a speech "obama announced his plan to deploy 30,000 additional troops"(Afghanistan - An Overview)
