  • Hassan get his birthday present

    Hassan had the surgery, "and the surgery went well," (Hosseini, 46). For Hassan's birthday Baba got Hassan a surgeon to fix his harelip, and fix his smile. After the surgery his lip was fixed, and was done perfectly.
  • Hassan Gets Raped

    Hassan was in trouble in the alley and needed someone's help, but, "in the end [Amir] ran," (Hosseini, 77). Amir's decision to run away affected him by leaving great guilt on his conscious. Although Amir wanted to help he was scared to face Assef and help his best friend, causing Amir and Hassan to both suffer greatly.
  • Last time Amir felt a rush

    The last time Amir had felt a rush like this was, "just after [he] had cut the last kite," (Hosseini,370). Amir had been so ashamed of what he had done that day that he never really was able to have a thrill like he was having with flying a kite. Also since they had moved from Afghanistan they had cancelled kite racing and he never had a chance to do it again until now.
  • The summer Amir turned 13

    The summer Amir turned 13 was, "Afghanistan's next to last summer of peace and anonymity," (Hosseini, 93). Afghanistan didn't see much peace a couple years after Amir had turned 13. There was a war going on and the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, which caused people to flee and then thr peace was gone.

    Ever since the Soviets invaded, "the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, has known little peace since 1979" (New York Times 1)

    To assist Babrak Karmal, "The first Soviet troops parachuted into Kabul on Dec. 27, 1979" (New York Times 2)
  • Baba and Amir leave Afghanistan

    Amir and Baba are leaving and the bus driver," was taking [them] to Jalalabad, about 170 kilometers southeast of Kabul," (Hosseini,111). Amir and his father are leaving because Afghanistan is becoming an unsafe place to live. Baba is trying to give Amir and him a better life, and to do that Baba and Amir must leave Afghanistan.
  • Baba fights with the Nguyens

    Baba wanted to buy fruits but he hadn't had cash on him, "[Baba had] written a check a check and Mr. Nguyen had asked for ID," (Hosseini, 127). Baba had felt like an outsider being in America, because he didn't know anyone and people didn't really get to know him. In Afghanistan people knew each other and they cared for each other and Baba felt upset when they asked for ID.
  • Amir graduates from high school

    Amir had, "graduated from high school at the age of twenty, by far the oldest senior.." (Hosseini, 131). Amir's time and effort in high school was worth it, because in the end he was able to graduate although he was older than most of the people graduating. He also accomplished a lot, and his father was very proud of him for graduating.
  • Amir gets married

    Amir was getting ready for the wedding and, "he rented a large Afghan banquet hall in Fremont.." (Hosseini, 169). Amir was getting prepared to get married soon, and Baba had spent a lot of money buying things and making everything perfect. Baba loved Amir and wanted him to be happy.
  • When Amir meets Soraya

    Amir had met a girl that he really liked and Baba says,"I hear she is a decent girl, hardworking and kind," (Hosseini,142). Amir really likes her and wants to get to know her better but Soraya's dad doesn't realy like Amir. Amir tries to get Baba to talk to Soraya's dad for him.
  • Baba and Amir buy a bus

    Baba traded his car for a, "Volkswagen bus for $550 from an old Afghan acquaintance who'd been a high-school science teacher in Kabul," (Hosseini,137). Amir and Baba traded their nice car for a bus so it would be easier to bring supplies to and from the flee market. Even though the bus wasn't the best car, it had a good engine and transmission
  • Baba dies

    Baba got home from the special event and went to bed but the next morning, "Babae never woke up." (Hosseini, 173). Although Amir was an adult and was married, he felt so alone and lonely. Amir missed his father immensely and wanted him back in his life.
  • Soviet Troops Left

    The Soviets, "left Afghanistan in February 1989" (New York Times 2)
  • Hassan's mother returned

    Hassan and his mother,"were catching up on all the lost years," (Hosseini,211). Hassan always wanted his mother around, and had always been curious about her and how she was like. Hassan's mother returned to him, and they reconnected and she had been there for him for a couple years until she passed.

    With the end of 1994 around the corner, " Mullah Omar had nearly 12,000 followers, and was rolling up the warlords to the north and east" (New York Times 2)
  • Seized Control

    After years of civil war, "the extremist Islamic group...had seized control in 1996" (New York Times 1)
  • Amir is about to go to Pakistan

    Amir has to go back to Pakistan because, "Rahim Khan is very sick," (Hosseini, 191). Amir has to go to Pakistan so he can say goog-bye to an old friend of his and his father's. Rahim Khan was like a second father to Amir and before Rahim dies he wants to thank him for everything, and see him for the last time.
  • Amir sees Assef

    Assef sees Amir and says, ""What did you thiink? That you'd put on a fake beard and i wouldn't recognize you?" (Hosseini, 281). Assef had done so many bad things to Hassan and Amir, that he would always remember them, and what they looked like. Also Assef had said that he would get revenge on Amir and this was his big chance.
  • Sohrab tries to kill himself

    Sohrab cuts himself and tries to kill himself, and Amir was ,"suddenly screaming through [his] clenched teeth," (Hosseini, 343). Sohrab didn't want to go back to the orphanage were he would be sexually abused again. Instead he decided to try and end his life and the misery that came with it.
  • Attack

    After the World Trade Center had been attacked, "in New York on Sept. 11, 2011, President George W. Bush gave the Taliban an ultimatum to hand over Mr. bin Laden" (New York Times 3)
  • Chairman

    The new chairman was elected, "in December 2001, Hamid Karzai, a upoorter and relative of Mohammad Zahir Shah, the exiled former king of Afghanistan.." (New York Times 3)
  • President

    Afghanistan had elected a new president, "Mr. Karzai was elceted to a five-year term as president in 2004" (New Yrok Times 3)
  • Taking Charge

    General Petraeus, "had taken charge of the United States Central Command in October 2008" (New York Times 4)
  • Deploy Troops

    Obama's Plan was to," deploy 30,000 additional troops. He vowed to start bringing American Forces home from Afghanistan in the middle of 2011.." (New York Times 4)
