    After Hassan and Amir win the kite competition Hassan says: "You won!Amir Agha!You won!"(Hossieni 66). This quote shows that Hassan and Amir are celebrating. Their victory is winning the very big kite competion

    Amir is hiding as he watches Assef rape Hassan. He says: " I could hear Assef's quick, rythmic grunts"(Hossieni 77). This quote shows the most tragic event in the story. It shows that Assef is getting back at Hassan by raping him.

  • Hassan and Ali leave to live in another place

    Amir is descibing the day Hassan and Ali left. He says: " But it rained the afternoon Baba took Ali and Hassan to the bus station"(Hosseini 108). This shows that Hassan and Ali are leaving Baba and Amir. They are leaving because Ali didn't want to live in a place that was tramatizing to Hassan.

    The beggining of..."The turmoil and extremsim that have dominated its history since then can be traced to the 1979 invasion by Soviet Union and the reaction both Afgans and by their allies".
  • First Soviet troops parachuted to assist Babrak Karmal

    The Taliban was helped when..."The first Soviet troops parachuted into Kabul on Dec 27, 1979, to assist Babrak Karmel, who had become president in a coup".
  • Baba and Amir move to San Francisco

    Amir is describing how living in America affects Baba. He says: " Baba loved the idea of living in America. It was living in America that gave him an ulcer"(Hosseini 125). This shows that Baba and Amir finally moved to America. They had many struggles there because it was so different from Kabul but the struggles were worth it.

    Amir is describing there wedding reception. Amir says: "I remeber sitting on the sofa, set on the stage like a throne, Soraya's hand in mine"(Hosseini 171). This quote proves that Amir did marry Soraya. They had a beatiful wedding and a good marraige.

    The Taliban looses resoures because..."After 1986, the Soviet Air force was also rendered largely useless by advanced Stinger antiaircraft missiles supplied by the United States to the rebels".
  • Rahim Kahn goes to find Hassan

    Rahim Kahn is describing his journey to find Hassan. He says: There were a lot of reasons why I went to Hazarajat to find Hassan in 1986"(Hosseini 204). This proves that Rahim Kahn did travel to see Hassan. He wanted to fill him in on some things and he was lonely after Baba died.
  • Baba is diagnosed with cancer and dies

    Amir is caring for Baba because he is sick and dying. He says: " We closed the door...Baba never woke up"(Hosseini 173). This shows tthat after not taking medicine, Baba died in his sleep. He died peacefully and he died in his home.
  • Amir and Soraya try to have kids put they have unexplained fertility problems

    Amir and Soraya go to see a doctor so they can figure out why they can't have kids. The doctor tells them that: "He couldnt explain why we couldn't have kids"(Hosseini 185). This shows that Soraya and Amir just could not have kids. There was no medical explanation for this misfortune.
  • Last Soviet troops leave Afghanistan

    The Taliban expirenced a lose.."After peace talks moderated by the United States, the last Soviet troops left Afganistan in February 1989, in what was in effect a unilateral withdrawal".
  • Hassans mother, Sanaubar comes back and atones

    Sanaubar shows up at Hassan's house and she asked for forgivness. Rahim Kahn said he : " Sat with Sanaubar all day as the sky went from bright blue to purple"(Hosseini 210). This shows that she came back to atone and bond with everyone in Hassan's life. She really wanted to prove that she was there to stay this time.
  • Hassan and his wife have a child named Sohrab

    Hassan and his wife Farzana had there first living child. Rahim Kahn says that: " It was Sanaubar who delivered Hassan's son that winter of 1990"(Hosseini 211). This shows that they had a child named Sohrab. He would soon become a very important charcter in the book.
  • Pakistani officers begin gathering supplies needed for battle

    The resoure demand became more promonent so..."Pakistani officers began funneling arms, money and supplies to Mullah Omar's men, as well as military advisers to help guide them in battle".
  • Afghanistan descends into vicious power phase

    There rise to power starts..."After Soviet forces departed, Afghanistan descended into vicious internecine strife; by the summer of 1994, power was anarcgically".
  • Mullah Omar has recruited nearly 12,000 followers

    The Taliban is gaining power because..."By the end of 1994 Mullah Omar had nearly 12,000 followers and was rolling up the warlords to the north and east".
  • Taliban has taken control of Afghanistan

    Rights are taken away when..."The Taliban by 1996 had taken control of Afghanistan, imposing strict enforcement of fundamentailists Islamic law, banning movies and music and dorcing women out of schools and into all-enveloping burqa clothing".
  • Hassan and his wife are killed by the Taliban

    Rahim Kahn is telling Amir what happened to Hassan. Someone from the Taliban: " shot him in the back of the head...Farzana came screaming...shot her too"(Hosseini 219). This shows that Hassan and his wife were unfairly killed by the Taliban because of there status. They left there child Sohrab without parents.
  • Rahim Kahn calls Amir and tells him to come back to Pakistan

    At the beggining of the story gets a call from an old friend. He says that: " My friend Rahim Kahn called from Pakistan. He asked me to come see him"(Hosseini 1). This shows that Rahim Kahn was calling Amir so he could fill him on everything that had happened. He would also later request that Amir bring Sohrab back to America which was the main reason why Amir had to go back to Kabul.
  • The Taliban was defeated

    The taliban was offically a new..." Named chairman of an interim goverment the replaced the defeated Taliban.
  • Amir brings Sohrab back to America as his adopted son

    After the long journey to get Sohrab home Amir finally does it. He says: "We finally arrived home about seven months ago, on a warm day in August"(Hosseini 357). This shows that after all the struggles they faced they made it home. There journey was over and they could finally start a new life at home.
  • Sohrab tries to commit suicide

    Sohrab was afraid that he would have to go back to the orphanage. He was in the bathtub and slit his wrists. Amir finds him and says later that: "I was still screaming when the ambulance arrived"(Hosseini 343). This proves that Sohrab could not lived a day longer in the orphange. He wanted to go to America with Amir and get away from the place that reminded him of the things he had lost.
  • The attack on the World Trade Center

    The Taliban had its first devistating act when they...Attack on World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001".
  • Amir fights Assef to get Sohrab

    Farid and Amir venture to the stadium so they can get Sohrab back from the Taliban. It is later reavled that Assef was the leader of the Taliban. Amir says: " Amir kept roaring with every blow. And the harder I laughed, the harder he kicked me"(Hosseini 289). This shows that Assef and Amir were fighting. Amir was finally ready to sacrafice for Hassan like Hassan would have always sacarifce for him.
  • Amir and Sohrab fly a kite together and Sohrab smiles for the first time

    There was a kite tournament going on in America and Amir and Sohrab were in it. Amir was amazed when: " I looked down at Sohrab. One corner of his mouth had curled up just so. A smile. Lopsided.Hardly there. But there"(Hosseini 371). This shows the bonding moment that Amir and Sohrab have. This gives the story hope and a happy ending
