1933 was "the year Baba was born" (24). This event gives life to the father of the main character. He is the person who molds Amir's life into what he becomes.

The book states, "Hassan was born in the winter of 1964, just one year after my mother died giving birth to me" (6). Amir is the main character in the story. Him being born begins the incredible journey that is his life.

When Amir was born, "[his] mother died giving birth to [him]" (6). This leaves Baba all alone to raise Amir. This often leads to why Amir feels lonely. Mainly because Baba doesn't have very much time for him.

The booke says, "Hassan was born in the winter of 1964" (6). Hassan is one of the most important characters inthe book for he is Amir's best friend. He show's people the meaning of a true friend. Him existing affects how Amir reflects on his life.

Hassan lost his mother, "less than a week after he was born" (6). Sanaubar leaving Hassan leaves Ali all alone to raise Hassan. Hassan has no mother growing up and his father is handicapped, so he has to do lots of work so he can live.

The book states, "in the late 1960's... Baba decided to build an orphange" (13). This is important because it symbolizes how Baba has a good heart. It also shows how he tried to atone for not telling Amir about Hassan.

Instead of reading straight from the book to Hassan, Amir makes one up, pretending he is reading a real book. Hassan says, "That was the best story you've read me in a long time" (30). This shows the creative mind that Amir posseses. It is an introduction to his magnificent writing skills and his ability to craft stories. It is the first sign of Amir being an author.

Hassan says, "You won, Amir" (66). This event makes Amir feel like Baba appreciates him for the first time. It also is the event that causes a horrible thing to happen.

With Amir watching, Assef "Unzipped his jeans. Dropped hid undewear. He positioned himself behind Hassan" (75). This event shows how Amir isn't a true friend. He lets Hassan suffer and is too afraid to stand up for him.

Amir tries to get Hassan kicked out by "lifting Hassan's mattress and [planting his] new watch and a handful of Afghani bills under it" (104). This event removes Hassan from Amir's life, yet Amir doesn't feel like it should have happened the way it did. Instead of being happy HAssan is gone, he realizes it was a big mistake.

Baba "loved the idea of America" (125). Amir and Baba wanted to live in America so they could find opportunity. There was nothing for them in Afghanistan, and everything was going downhill. They needed a place with hope.

Amir's wedding to Baba was, "the happiest day of his life" (165). This event gave Amir the true love that he wanted. It also gave Baba happiness for he got to see his son get married.

When the Taliban raids Amir's old house, Hassan is there, and the Taliban, "shot him in the back of the head" (219). This event makes Amir feel guilty for Hassan's death. It also makes Amir think he has to save Sohrab since he never atoned for his past sins.

Rahim Khan says, "I want you to go to Kabul. I want you to bring Sohrab here" (220). Rahim Kahn is handing Amir the biggest opportunity for Amir to atone for his past. Hassan is dead, and he will not let the same happen to Sohrab.

Amir is very angry when he first finds out. He says, "my whole life is one big fucking lie!" (223). This dramatically changes Amir's life. Now he knows that not only did he let his friend get raped and taken away, but he let his brother get raped and leave. He already felt terrible enough, and now he knows that he let his family down.
