  • 1931 Picture of Baba’s father with King Mohammad

    Althogh this small picture seems insignificant, it shows that throughout generations, Baba's family has always had power. However, This factor later becomes important when Baba and Amir move to San Francisco and Baba has no influence over anyone there.
  • 1963 Amir is born

    Amir's mothers life is sacraficed to give birth to Amir.
  • 1964 Hassan is born

    Hassan Mother, Sanuabar gives birth to Hassan. Later in the story, we find out that Baba is actually Hassan real father, and that Amir and him were really half brothers.
  • 1964 4 days after Hassans birth, Sanuabar leaves.

    "It was in that small shack that Hassan's mother, Sanuabar, gave birth to him one cold winter day in 1964. While my mother hemorrhaged to death during childbirth, Hassan lost his less than a week after he was born. Lost her to a fate most Afghans considered far worse than death: She ran off with a clan of traveling singers and dancers."(6)
  • 1975 Amir wins the Kite contest and Baba's approval

    "Then I saw Baba on our roof. He was standing on the edge, pumping both his fists. Hollering and clapping. And that right there was the single greatest moment of my twelve years of life, seeing Baba on that roof, proud of me at last."(66) Amir had been after Babas approval the whole story, and he finally got it. This is a major turning point because as his relationship with Baba becomes better, his relationship with Hassan descends.
  • 1975 Hassan is violated by Assef

    "'I've changed my mind,' Assef said. "I'm letting you keep the kite, Hazara. I'll let you keep it so it will always remind you of what I'm about to do."(73) Assef has been chasing after and beating up on Hassan and Ali, but nothing ever like this before. Despite his psycopathic mind process, he still stayed the closest to his morals.
  • 1976 Amir gets Hassan and Ali kicked out

    "They'd bother been cring; I could tell from their red, puffed up eyes. They stood before Baba, hand in hand, and I wondered how and when I'd become capable of causing this kind of pain."(105) This is the lowest point of the story in terms of Hassans relationship with Amir. Amir had planted evidence and done a sin, now he will have to pay the price.

    "Fazel was close to several mujahedeen commanders during the Soviet war in the 1980's and ran Afghanistan's official radio station, Kabul Radio, which was an early target of the Soviet invasion."
  • 1981 The Russians invade, Baba and Ali flee Afghanistan

    "He said it to Karim, but looked directly at the Russian officer. "Ask him where his shame is." They spoke. "He says this is war. There is no shame in war." (115) Scarred by the changing of Kabul, Baba and Amir take refuge in America.
  • 1982 Baba and Amir go to San Fansisco

    "Baba loved the idea of America. It was living there that gave him an ulcer." (125) With Afghanistan out of their mind, Baba and Amir focus on their new life in the bay area. Amir attends a school and Baba gets a job.
  • 1983 Amir graduates from Highschool

    "That summer of 1983, I graduated from high school at the age of twenty, by far the oldest senior tossing his mortarboard on the football field that day." (131) Despite being 20, Amir still graduated Highschool and had a good career ahead of him.
  • 1984 Amir meets Soraya

    "'Padar jan, you forgot your tea.' A young woman's voice. She was standing behind us, a slim-hipped beauty with velvety coal black hair[.]" (140) Amir and soraya met at a cofee stand, and although no words were exchanged between them, they still had a feeling for each other.
  • 1987, Said Hyder Akbars cousin kidnapped

    " In 1987, after Hyder's young cousin was kidnapped in Peshawar and the family feared another abduction, Fazel sent his wife and two young sons to America. Hyder was 2."
  • 1989 Soraya and Amir attemp a family

    "The idea of fatherhood unleashed a swirl of emotions in me. I found it frightening, invigorating, daunting, and exhilerating." (184) Amir said he wants to be everything like Baba, yet nothing like him. Baba "stole" Amirs childhood, and Amir doesn't want to do the same.
  • 1990 Sanuabar Returns

    "Hassan [smiled] and the old woman wept. 'You smiled coming out of me, did anyone ever tell you? And I wouldn't even hold you. Allah forgive me, I wouldn't even hold you." (210)
  • 1990 Sohrab is born

    "They named him Sohrab, after Hassan's faourite herofrom the Shahnamah, as you know, Amir jan." (211) Sohrab is what Amir see's as a guilt redeeming factor. If he can save Sohrab from the Taliban, he will be free of his guilt.
  • 1996 Taliban take over again

    "'So when the Taliban came....' 'They were heroes,' Rahim Khan said. 'Peace at last." (201) Afghans were looking for a leader to guide them for quite some time, so when the Taliban showed up, and ended all the fighting, people rejoiced in the streets.
