  • Sopwith Camel - First Flight

    Sopwith Camel - First Flight
The Sopwith Camel. First flown at Brooklands Museum by Harry Hawker on the 22nd of December 1916.
  • Sopwith Camel - Strengths&Weaknesses

    Sopwith Camel - Strengths&Weaknesses
    This plane had many strengths:
Part of it was covered in alluminium.
It had a small windscreen to protect the pilot at take off and landing from small rocks.
It could reache 10,00 in under 10minutes.
This plane however, had its weaknesses:
It was very sensitive to steer.
It was tail heavy which meant that they were very manouverable but unpredictable,
  • Sopwith Camel - Introduction to RAF

Sopwith Camel - Introduction to RAF
The plane was first introduced to the RAF on the 1st of June. It was powered by a 110Hp Clerget engine and could reach a top speed of 118mph. Around 5,500 were built.
  • Sopwith Dolphin

    Sopwith Dolphin
    The first four gun fighter.
  • Hawker Cygnet

    Hawker Cygnet
The product of a competition set by The Royal Aero Club. This was the winner.
  • Hawker Hart - Creation

    Hawker Hart - Creation
The Hakwer Hart, designed by Sydney Camm, was a single bi-plane powered by a Rolls Royce V-12 engine. It could reach top speed of 184mph. The planes were getting faster.
  • Hawker Hart - Varitations&Strengths

    Hawker Hart - Varitations&Strengths
The Hart had many varitations. The Hart Trainers, a modified version to train pilots in. The Hart Figher a Two-seater version for the RAF. The Estonian and Swedish Hart, these two were built specifically for the two countries.
The strengths of this plane were:
At the first flight of the Hart, it was 30mph faster than the usual RAF plane.
It could fly for 2hours 45minutes.
It could reach 184 mph at 5,000 ft.
  • Hawker Fury - FirstToLast

    Hawker Fury - FirstToLast
The Hawker Fury was the first RAF plane to exceed 200mph. The Fury I, took its first flight in 1931 at Brooklands. A year later, the High Speed Fury began its develpment however it was unsuccesful due to the unreliable engine. After some fixing and fine tuning the Fury II was made.
  • Hawker Fury - What set it apart

Hawker Fury - What set it apart
This bi-plane was small and very fast. Reaching a top speed of over 200mph due to its 525hp Kestrel engine, this plane had senstive controls meaning it was extremely acrobatic and was partially developed to intercept bombers at high speed and altitude.
  • Hawker Hurricane - 300mph!

    Hawker Hurricane - 300mph!
Taking its first flight on the 6th November, this plane could reach 300mph. Although overshadowed by the Spitfire, this plane its renowned for it tremendous help in the Batlle of Britain, taking over 50% of the kills.
  • Hawker Hurricane - Development&Firepower

The Hurricane developed well. It went from Mk I to MkI (modified) with armour improvements and metal covered wings. It then went through several Mk II phases, these consisted of gun attachments, bomb attachments, engine enhacements and armour improvements. Mk III, this version was a modified Mk II with the main purpose to provide engine supplies. Moving onto the Mk V where it was given a serious engine upgrade (1700hp).
Firepower. This plane had alot of it. It was known as the first 8-Gunfighter
  • Hawker Typhoon

    Hawker Typhoon
This plane was the first 400mph plane in the RAF. Its main role was to be a medium altitude plane interceptor. By late 1942 it was finall equipped with bombs. It was also powered by a 2,000hp engine,
There were not any significant variations of this plane as it was only in use for the best part of 4 years. However it did make slight modifications throughout the years.
  • Hawker Hunter - Subsonic

    Hawker Hunter - Subsonic
This plane was subsonic! Its modified prototype broke the air speed record of 727mph. Its origins go back to the Sea Hawk. They modified it to have swept wings and its all came frome there. They realised that 'Jet' was the future and out came the Hunter. The P.1067 was the actual plane.
  • Hawker P.1127

    Hawker P.1127
Experimental aircraft that acted as a prototype for the Harrier. It was the first plane in the world that could take off and land vertically. It began as a prototype, and it went through many engine redesigns. The last prototype utilised swept wings. It was then put forward to the RAF.
  • Hawker Siddeley Harrier - TheJumpJet

    Hawker Siddeley Harrier - TheJumpJet
Derived from the P.1127, this was the first in a line of Harriers. The designer Sydney Camm died shortly before the first flight. It was commonly used as a ground-attack aircraft although, being very manouverable, it was also used in short ranged affairs.
