    This tariff subsizdised domestic producers and opened American market to other suguars. This was the second most important tariff in history and it lasted only 4 years. The law permitted all countries to ship sugar duty-free to the United States. It created an economic crisis and caused political turmoil there when sugar prices dropped in Hawaii. This was important by helping America open up to different companies& helped imperialize our country by not being dependent on another1,4acertainprod

    When the USS Maine sunk on Feb. 15th, 1898 there were Americans on board. A total of 266 people were killed when it sunk, and America blamed the Spanish. Not only did that engrage the US but also the De Lome Letter mocking US Gov. McKinley. These events cause America to start a war with Spain. This was basically America imperializing our country. Although in war 13 times more Americans died from sickness than Spanish bullets.

    The annexation of Hawaii extended U.S. territory into the Pacific. This was the perfect spot for American whaling ships, fertile ground for American protestant missionaries, and a new source of sugarcane production, Hawaii's economy became largely combined with the United States. The US saw how important of a position that Hawaii had in the Pacific and decided we needed a place for a Navy that could defend attacks from Japan & China.     America said that no single country should have a monopoly on trade with China. This was an important event in imperialism because it was to prevent other powers from stopping their Chinese trade.

    At 4:07 P.M. while the president was shaking hands and meeting people, it was 28-year-old anarchist Leon Czolgosz's turn to meet him, but he wasn't there just to see the president, in fact he was planning on killing him. He hid his .32 calibur in his right hand hidden under a handkerchief, and when president McKinley went to shake his right hand, Leon raised his right hand and shot the president right in the chest. He however did not die from being shot, but died from infection.

    The Panama Canal is a manmade canal. It divides the country of Panam in half, and it is between the Pacific & Atlantic Ocean. This was very important to the United States because if you were to sail from the Pacific to the Atlantic, The Canal cuts off a couple of weeks of travel time & many tons of fuel. This would make it so you woudn't have to go all the way around South America. It's extremely important to our navy and vital for world trade. It is still used to this day.

    Teddy Roosevelt square deal was his "hands-on" approach to the the Progressive Era. The Square Deal was proposed for fair treatment for workers, the businesses, and for the general public. This deal publicized public health safety, fought to improve working conditions, and helped by limiting the power of trusts. This event was important because it helped create regulations that business' should not cut corners in any way to jeopardize public health, meaning business' cutting costs were limited.

    Upton Sinclair was a muckraking journalist who wanted to get awareness and the word out about the sickening harsh conditions of the meat packaging industry. He wrote about how there was meat that fell on the floor full of dirt & sawdust and workers walked and spit and the billions of germs. He also wrote about how meat would be stored in huge piles in rooms and there would be thousands of rats running all over it. This is important because it needed to be improved and sanitary for the people.

    The purpose of the Food & Drug act was to support information to people about the products they were consuming. It was also to protect against companies stating the foods or drugs were healthy when there was no scientific support. This is important because people need to know what they are consuming for nutritious and safety reasons, such as being alergic to an ingredient, or just for curiosity of knowing what the objects were made of.

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Serbia heir to Autria-Hungary's throne was assasinated by Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip. This was a major event because it was what started it all.... WORLD WAR 1.

    This was the first battle of the War in which the Germans had to cross Beligum. This battle ran for 12 days. From August 5th to August 16th. It was a moral victory for the Allies. The Belgians heavily outnumbered the German invasion force. This battle was an important event because it was the first land battle.

    The British ocean liner Lusitania, famous for its luxurious accommodations and speed capability, mostly ferried people &goods across the Atlantic Ocean. It travele between the United States and Great Britain. The Ship "Lusitania" was torpedoed & sunk by German U-boats and this was important because it was a main producer of American interest in engaging in war with Germany after findout out 128 of their civillians were killed in a war which they were oficially neutral.

    Many events leading up to WW1 led Wilson to believe our country had to make an involvment. He first had to prove to America and convince us that joining was of great importance for us. Wilson leads America into war by joining the allies. This event was important because it's what started World War 1 for our country.

    The Nineteenth Amendment was ratified in 1920. This Amendment was created to give women the FULL right to vote. This ammenedment was so supported because it helped aid women's suffrage and helped to shape equality in our society. I thought this was an important event, because is it were to never happen, I wouldn't have the right to vote and have a say in who's the head of my country when I turn 18.

    The Treaty of Versailles was the peace settlement signed after World War One had ended in 1918 by "The Big 3". President Wilson ran alll sorts of campaigns for it's passing. There was so much turmoil and disagreement over amending & reserving, that it caused the treaty to never be passed. America spent a year on conflicts over this treaty while Germany suffered economically and became vulnerable... This was an important event because is was the end of World War 1.
