As far back as I can remember, my dad always had a book in hand. In the evenings, he would sit outside and read for hours on end. I remember the tons of books he would read through at a rapid pace.

By the time I was three years old, I was mesmerized by Little Golden Books such as The Poky Little Puppy.

Biscuit books, authored by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, are the first books that I learned to read on my own.

In fourth grade I had a teacher that encouraged my love of reading. I began reading chapter books and usually I could be seen trying to hide a book in my lap and read during lessons.

In 8th grade, I became editor of the school newspaper. I didn’t do much writing, but enjoyed reading everyone’s content and putting it into a newsletter.

When I began high school I was exposed to literary classics such as Romeo and Juliet, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Lord of the Flies.

In my junior year of high school, I had a very hard time in my English literature class. My love of reading greatly diminished during this time.

I became a mother and began reading books that I loved as a child to my own child along.

I began helping my daughter learn how to read and helping her with reading homework. It was incredibly frustrating for me, but she grew to be a great reader.

By this time, I was rarely opening any books. I was reading online content daily and preferred reading over watching content.

I took my first college English course and my love of reading was rekindled.

Most of my reading consists of college coursework, reading my students’ work, or reading online content. I am anxiously waiting for the time when I am able to read a book just for entertainment.
