  • National School Lunch Act

    National School Lunch Act
    Allowed every child an opportunity to have a meal at school for free or low-cost regardless of their economic background. Students that may have not eaten a meal otherwise had an opportunity to eat at school.
  • Brown vs Board of Education

    Brown vs Board of Education
    "Separate but equal" was declared unconstitutional and eventually led to the desegregation of public schools. Although it took roughly 14 years to fully take effect, this started the process.
  • Title IX of the Educational Act of 1972

    Title IX of the Educational Act of 1972
    Opened the door to more equal opportunities for girls in the school system. Title IX is usually related to girl's sports, but it encompasses everything related to school.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    Attempted to hold states, districts, and schools accountable for poor academic performance from their students. School's didn't want to receive a poor grade so teachers began teaching students to pass the tests in order to remain in good standing.
  • The Common Core State Standards Inititive

    The Common Core State Standards Inititive
    Gives more freedom to states, districts and schools how they want to teach in the core subjects like math and reading. Allows for more cross-over between subjects, and isn't just students memorizing facts and dates.
