    The first official colony of America is created. The colonist's sailed over seas from England to set up shop in Jamestown, Virginia. Jamestown is noted as "Where the British Empire began."

    Start of The Thirty Years War
    The Thirty Years War was a vicious conflict between the most powerful forces of Europe. It's noted as the deadliest European religious war in history. With eight million casualties, the result of the war was redrawing the political and religious map of most of Europe.
  • Great Plague

    Great Plague
    The Great Plague, which occurred in London killed 75,000 people. It was the last major epidemic that occurred in England as a result of the bubonic plague.

    The United Kingdom of Great Britain is formed. England, Wales, and Scotland joined together to form the country modernly known as The United Kingdom.

    The Industrial Revolution was a time period in which America changed towards modernization. There were changes in mining, agriculture, manufacturing, and technology. All of these changes had an effect on social and economic factors in America at the time.

The French were expanding into the Ohio River Valley, which over various conflicts led the British to declare war. The French landed the support of the Native Americans and Spain and eventually gave Canada and Florida over to the British at the peace conference in 1763. The treaty strengthened the colonies and opened up Westward expansion.

    After years of mistreatment from the British, the colonists officially declare independence from British rule. The Declaration of Independence is signed into effect on July 4th.
  • JQA accompanied father to France, started historical diary

    John Quincy Adams, eleven years old, accompanied his diplomat father to France on a six week, dangerous and risky boat ride aboard the "Boston". "Nightfall only added to their danger as winds picked up and swelled into a hurricane." (Unger 6) He also started his diary on this trip which serves as a historical document used for accounting America in this time period.

    JQA return to Boston, attend Harvard
    JQA returns to Boston after years in Europe. Adams attends Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts to study law. The Harvard President made JQA wait a semester and humiliated him. "And now, with a few words, an undistinguished pedagogue, who had contributed nothing to his nation's freedom, had shattered the hopes of a Founding Fathers son to complete his higher education, obtain a law degree, and assume the leadership of his country." (Unger 62)

    After the Revolutionary War, the Articles of Confederation, and all of the other historical landmarks in our nations history came the Constitution. The constitution serves as the Supreme law of the land and is still being followed and interpreted in todays modern society.

    The first electoral college in our nations history elected George Washington as America's first President of the United States. Washington is known as being a war hero during the Revolutionary War, a Founding Father, and serving as a mediator and the first President from 1789-1797.

    Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antionette
    King Louis XVI was convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers and executed the same day in Paris, France. His widely unpopular Queen, Marie Antionette was convicted of treason and executed in the same place her husband was just nine months earlier.

    During the Napoleonic War, The French army of Italy under the rule of Napoleon conquered Italy. The Wars were a result of shifting alliances between European powers.
  • JQA elected to Mass. Legislature

    John Quincy Adams, after being appointed minister to various European countries, was elected to the Massachusetts state Legislature. The election marked Adam's first elected title.
  • JQA appointed to Senate, switched party alliance

    John Quincy Adams was appointed his first Senate position. Adam's also switched his party allegiance from the Federalist Party to the Republican-Democrat Party.

    England attacks the United States to reclaim it's territory that was lost in the Revolutionary War. The United States defeats England once again proving that they are here to stay independent and thrive.

    John Quincy Adams was chief negotiator in the War of 1812, appointed by Madison. Adams opposed Henry Clay and delegated the Treaty of Ghent which ended the War of 1812. ""I consider the day on which I signed it[The Treaty of Ghent] as the happiest day of my life, because it was the day on which I had my share in restoring peace to the world."" (Unger 176)

    John Quincy Adams was appointed Secretary of State to President James Monroe. At this time period, Secretary of State was known as a step before Presidency. Adams is known historically as one of the most Successful Secretary of state's in US history.

    JQA 6th US President
    John Quincy Adams was elected as the sixth president of the United States and served one term (1825-1829). JQA was very outspoken throughout his presidency of his opposition to slavery and support for freedom of speech.
  • JQA elected 9 terms as HOR

    After John Quincy Adams lost his 2nd presidential race to Andrew Jackson, he was elected as a representative for Massachusetts, Adams served nine consecutive terms as a representative until he died. (1831-1848)
