Berlin Blockade Ends
On may 12, 1949, the Berlin Blockade, an early crisis of the Cold War, comes to an erupt halt when the Soviet Union lifts the Berlin blockade against West Berlin. The blockade was broken by a huge US british airlift of supplies to West Berlin's 2 million citizens. -
Sputnik launched into orbit
The launch of the unmanned satellite Sputnik by the Suviet Union shocked and frightened many Americans. They were shocked and jeoulous that the Soviets had gotten so far ahead with their technology. They were also scared that the Soviet Union had gotten ahead of them in the Arms Race. -

The Cuban Missile crisis happened all in an intense 13 day political and military standoff in october 1962. The Soviet Union wanted to install nuclear missiles on Cuba. The US thought of this as a threat to the safety of our Nation and threatened to use our military if necessary. Many people feared that we were going to have a nuclear war after this, but the disaster was avoided when the soviet leader offered to remove the missiles if the US promised not to invade Cuba. -
North Korea Captured U.S.S. Pueblo
A navy intellegence vessel was ingaged in a routine surveillance of the North Korea coast when it was intercepted by North Korea patrol boats and demanded srrender from the Americans. The Americans attempted to escape, so North Korea opened fire and wounded the commander and two other crew members. -
Apollo 11 lands on the Moon
The Apollo 11 had a crew of 3 men, Neil Armstrong, the commander, Buzz Aldrin, the lunar module pilot, and Michael Collins, the commander module pilot.
