On this day, John married Jacqueline Bouvier. Jacqueline was born in Southampton July 28, 1929. After Kennedy's death she went on to marry Aristotle Onassis, one of the world's richest men.

After Kennedy's second back operation, he wrote the Profiles in Courage. This is a book written about eight senators whom he felt were honorable. His book won a Pulitzer Prize in 1957. Today, there is a Profiles in Courage Essay that students in high school can write and enter to win scholarships.

The U.S. tried to invade Cuba, because we didn't like Castro, this ended in the Bay of Pigs. The Bay of Pigs was an operation in which American trained Cubans tried to defeat Castro's army. The U.S. was defeated and Castro gained a military victory.

Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Lyndon Johnson (Kennedy's vice president) became president. Kennedy died from a shot to the head from Lee Harvey Oswald.
