Johanes Kepler was born in Weil der Stadt, Germany
-
Kepler began to work with Tycho Brake at Benátky nad Jizerou (35 km from Prague). During their work they studied the orbit of Mars.
-
Kepler published his book "Astronomia nova" (New Astronomy which included his first two laws of planetary motion. His first law: The law of ellipses, stated that the orbit of a planet is an ellipse where one focus of the ellipse is the sun. Kepler's second law: Law of Equal Areas, stated that a line from the planet to the sun sweeps out equal areas in equal amounts of time.
-
Gelileo sought the opinion of Kepler to boost the credibility of his own observations. Kepler published his respose "Dissertatio cum Nuncio Sidereo" (Conversation with the Starry Messenger) where he endorsed Galileo's observations on telescopic observations.
-
Kepler published the book "Harmonices Mundi" (World Harmony) which included his third law of planetary motion: The Law of Harmonies, that stated that A line from the planet to the sun sweeps out equal areas in equal amounts of time. Below is a link that quickly explains all three of Kepler's laws.
