“Students and pupils leave the room at the end of the lesson in possession of a measurable piece of knowledge.” “as educators it is our role to nurture an interest in learning.”

    Snow Season
The Christmas break offered a lot of time for Critical Reflection and making plans for January's block teaching practice.
  • The Road to Block!

    The Road to Block!
In the middle of a long hard Winter we embarked on three full weeks in school; the infamous BLOCK!
Despite original trepidation it certainly ended up being a defining moment of the year and in my development as a teacher.
  • Progress!

    Progress!
Towards the end of block, despite being exhausted, I was beginning to feel a lot more comfortable in my role as a teacher. Just like the initial signs of a stretch in the evenings and Spring opening up before us I felt the sense of synthesis taking place within my practice. Notable changes were occurring.
  • The Journey is the Destination

    The Journey is the Destination
While I agree with my original statement to some extent in that students and pupils must gain knowledge within the timespan of the short lesson, I am much more concerned with the processes which must take place in order for learning to occur. Ultimately I feel that it is the processes which will remain with the students and perhaps the PROCESS of learning may be more important than what is being learned. Learning is an active process and it is our responsibility to facilitate that process.
