  • Sopwith 1½ strutter

    Sopwith 1½ strutter
    The sopwith strutter was a one or two seater biplane. It was called the one and a half strutter because it had one and a half pairs of cabline struts supporting its' top wing. It was powered by a 80 horsepower gnome rotary engine. It was first designed and manufactured by the sopwith aviation company, however there were around 4,500 of these manufactured in france and only 1,439 built in the UK. It's first flight was in December 1915.

    Sopwith camel
    The sopwith camel was one of the most successful allied fighter aircraft of world war one. In total, it had shot down 1294 enemy aircraft in world war one. It was built to replace the sopwith pup. Also during it's early development, it was known as the big pup. It was armed with two .303 vickers machine guns firing through the propeller at the front using syncronisation.

    This plane was made up of wood and fabric which allowed it to be very light. It's weight whe empty was only 373lb. It's engine was a Bristol cherub III which was a two cylinder engine. It also had a very high speed of 82MPH which was about 132KPH.
    It was able to seat two people.

    The hawker hurricane was a single seater fighter plane which accounted for more than 60% of the victories of the RAF.
    Even though it was proven to be much more usful than other planes at that time, it was over shadowed by the well known supermarine spitfire. It was mainly used by the Royal air force and the Royal Canadian air force. There were more than 14,000 of this model produced.

    This aircraft was a single seater fighter plane equipped with bombs and ground attack rockets. It was also known as the low altitude interceptor. This is because it was the only fighter plane capable of fighting the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 at low altitudes. It was also used as a ground fighter plane. This is because it was fast and able to carry multiple bombs at once doing high damage in a short time.

    Hawker hunter
    The Hawker hunter was a British jet aircraft created in 1951. There were almost 2000 of these were built and were used in the Royal air force, the Indian air force, Swiss air force, and the Swedish air force, It was armed with four 30mm ADEN cannons each with 150 rounds of ammunition. It also ntered the RAF for service in 1954. It was the first high-speed jet aircraft equipped with radar and fully powered flight controls to serve in the RAF
