John Fitzgerald Kennedy is born
Born to businessman/politician Joseph Patrick "Joe" Kennedy and philanthropist/socialite Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald-Kennedy. -
JFK's navy boat is struck causing JFK to swim 3 1/3 miles to shore whilst carrying a fellow Navy officer.
Long story short JFK swam 3 1/3 miles whilst pulling a fellow navy officer behind him after their boat was sank by Japanese enemies. After getting to shore JFK spent days swimming to nearby islands to try to find some sign of life. Finally JFK found a small tribe who alerted the coast guard and rescued what was left of JFK's crew. -
JFK runs for President
JFK put his name in to the running for the 1960 presidential election against Richard Nixon. This would come to be the first election with televised debates. Those debates would become Richard Nixon's Achilles heel. He appeared sweaty and bumbled over his words, contrary to JFK who appeared to be a grand figure and fantastic orator. -
The president delivers a special message on civil rights to Congress on the same day that voter registration volunteer Jimmy Travis is shot in Mississippi.
This was the beginning of the civil rights act that JFK's successor Lyndon Johnson would make law in 1964. -
JFK assassinated
While in the backseat of his motorcade in Dallas Texas, JFK is gunned down by Lee Harvey Oswald (some say there were multiple shooters, I do not have the time or space to go in to this). JFK is pronounced dead at 1:00 pm in Parkland hospital.
